With all this polar bear hype no one has paid attention to the panda updates

Pandas maybe located in a building already at the zoo? Help me out guys where do you think? The ONLY place I think they can go would be where the stingrays were, unless something replaces them cause there is a confidential attachment about a special exhibit and it will only be announced once the panda announcement is finalized within a week ? Again, this is just a sceptic and will most likely not happen (the pandas in the group events tent), I am also curious to know if stingrays is coming back...

And on a side note, I hope the undercover boss did the zoo well, I am finally proud to say at least we have a CEO with a good mindset!
 
Not sure if there is a Present happenings thread in the works, so I'll put this here for now. At the Zoo on Saturday, here are the updates:

--Lion Tailed Macaques back on display, their exhibit has been refurnished
--The Male Wrinkled Hornbill is on display in Malayan Woods
--Black Throated laughing thrush are all on display together in the old White Crested Laughing Thrush exhibit in Indo Malaya
--Anemonaes are now on display in the Americas Marine Room. Giant Octopus signage is back up also, but tank was empty. Bat Star was also on display.
--The "Bug Wing" in the America's pavilion is under full construction. All exhibits were closed off
--Snow Geese were on display in the Arctic Fox exhibit's second yard
--There is a new lizard on display with the Frilled Lizard in Australasia. This lizard is definitely not a frilled lizard, it is much larger. No Signage.
--Yak have been moved to the Eurasian Reindeer exhibit. Looks like a semi/permanent move as all Yak signage has been move to the exhibit and all reindeer signage has been removed, including directional signs.
--Black Tree Monitor have been moved to the Cane Toad exhibit in Australasia. No sign of Cane Toad.
--Nile Monitor exhibit and Prehensile Tailed Porcupine exhibit under construction

As to where the pandas will be held in, in an currently exhibit, the only one I could see possibly is the Amur Tiger exhibit, or with a lot of modification (as it's basically a field) the old Scimitar Horned Oryx enclosure. I understand there's a lot of expensive having them here but I'm really looking forward to seeing the pandas.

Well, an existing exhibit in Eurasia it is then! I still do not understand how thats going to save the zoo money, like which exhibit, its possible for the tigers but they are a flagship species. I still feel as if the zoo is going to spend the same amount of money renovating an existing space, also you have to understand that its logical for the zoo to only do it on the one side of Eurasia that is going to stay Eurasia and not be renovated in the near future for the rest of the Canadian Wilderness. So that leaves, Tiger, Reindeer, Camel, Oryx, or Red Panda. Although, the oryx exhibit is supposed to become an addition for the P.Horses. I guess we will have to wait a little while still. Any thoughts?
 
Maybe they'll modify the old Yak exhibit. As I mentioned the Yak's with their signage are moved to the reindeer exhibit. The Yak exhibit is empty right now. Maybe with modification?
 
Well according to CP24 this morning the Pandas will be going in the tiger exhibit, with major modifications. I would assume the tiger will go back in this same exhibit after which in turn will benefit the zoo in the long run seeing as the tiger exhibit needs and upgrade as well!

Tigers are out, the two Pandas that are coming are mentioned in there too!
 
So due to the acquisition of the pandas (which I've never been more excited about!), are the amur tigers no longer part of the eurasia plan?
 
They will probably take up residence after the pandas leave, therefore develop the new exhibit in collaboration with the fact that it may hold tigers in the future.

Tatiana will be moved to the Sumatran Tiger exhibit and Vitali to Animal Health Centre. I would assume this means both species of tigers will not be breed within the next 5 years. All we have to do is wait. In my opinion, the addition is going to benefit the zoo extremely well.
 
Question - is it possible the pandas will be here longer than 5 years (or longer than 10 years)?

I ask because it is my understanding that panda loans are typically for 10 years and they are often extended. San Diego's keep getting extended. I suspect it has to do with whether the zoo is successful in breeding the pandas and whether the zoo continues to want them in exchange for the million dollar fee.

I personally think they will be a great addition to the TZ and I hope the TZ does everything to keep them permanently.
 
After 5 years the pandas will be travelling to Calgary, the only way they would stay longer is with a birth or pregancy which would keep the pandas in Toronto longer. If the zoo choses to bring them back after the 5 years are done in Calgary then that is a future decision. The reason each zoo has decided on 5 years each is because they would break even and then make some money on top of that, going over the 5 years may result in a deficit.
 
According to the website there is nothing available about it, I would email the zoo and try and find some information out. It says they are working on the adult programs so possible under that webpage? I have had the opportunity to do it, I highly recommend and it well never be forgotten.
 
Very neat Idea. I wonder how the Orangutans would react to seeing other apes though, I wonder if aggression would be shown, or if they would just look and not show aggression to what they are looking at, especially if it was male on male.
 
If you go to the animals off display page, it says Eurasia is closed as of April 10th because the zoo is preparing for pandas and doing renovations :D
 
That's great news! :) It will be interesting to take the zoomobile through the area now, as time goes on and see if we can catch a glimpse of what is happening behind the scenes there. Anyone on here have some details about what is actually being done, other than of course the Amur tiger exhibit having a renovation done, so it can accommodate the pandas.
 
As a huge fan of Eurasia, I'm glad to see it being given a facelift, though I'll find myself missing my usuals there for a bit :) Outside the pandas and Steller's Sea Eagle, I wonder what other new species will be brought in?
