New signage in the Americas Pavilion... I dont believe it. Shocking. I mean obviously they had to do it for new species but a lot of the signs in that part of the zoo are the old ones from when I was a kid.

Im glad the Lake Malawi tank is finally reopened. It left a big whole in the pavilion and its such a great splash of colour. I like it far more than the Great Barrier Reef.

Arcticwolf how did your interview to be a volunteer go? Im guessing well because well lets be honest you probably know more about the zoo than the person interviewing you. Hope you get on because you would probably love it.
 
Well best of luck to you. If they dont pick you they will have made a big mistake because I think you would do a fantastic job.

One more piece of news I forgot to mention is that the new Eurasia gate is now open. It is located between Tundra Trek and the Australasia Pavilion and goes to the panda exhibit.
 
You welcome but I was merely stating a fact. Since you joined our happy little group you have always been interested in learning more about the zoos history, its animals and its future from anything we post and you work hard to pump keepers for info to share. I think they would be lucky to have you because you probably wouldnt need anywhere near as much training as others. You could probably teach them a thing or two.

Now what does the gate being open mean? Does that mean Eurasia is actually open?
 
The gate will lead to the Eurasia Wilds when it opens in the spring. Right now since the exhibit isn't open yet, the gate just has a path going to the panda exhibit.

When the Zoo reopened after the ice storm they opened that gate because any other paths to The Americas and Tundra Trek were too dangerous. There were overhanging broken limbs everywhere. Probably they decided it was a good idea to just leave it open.
 
One more piece of small news that I forgot to mention is that all of the glass in the polar bear maternity exhibit is covered up. I hope this means Remy will be going on exhibit soon and the zoo is just preparing it for him.
 
It must mean that. Didnt Hudson go on exhibit in February? Now techincally Remy is younger but he also seems stronger and more robust than Hudson did at a similar age. I wouldnt be surprised if he goes on exhibit this month.

So true. During my last couple visits, Da Mao was in the exact same spot each time. You'd think he was a really good stuffed animal.
 
Lol Cypher maybe Da Mao just doesnt like you. Hes clearly a video fan and you keep bringing that boring old camera with you. Boring camera = boring behaviour. Try making him an internet sensation on youtube and you might have more luck.

He still seems like a big silly boy. Just imagine what kind of silly behaviours we are in for if he and Er Shun have a cub with his rock start personality. It will be hilarious.

Im glad someone at the zoo has finally picked up on the fact that we like videos and is promoting both Remy and Da Mao using videos to make us love them more. Next up convincing that person we need a series of web cams. My votes right now would be the polar bears and pandas. Remy will be endlessly entertaining but his parents and aunt can be pretty good themselves. And everyone seems to love panda cams. I think this one is the most realistic with the potential of a cub (no matter how remote) this summer they will need to have a cam in there anyway to monitor the baby. Why not a web cam and let everyone bond with the cub the way all the US zoos do before its debut?
 
Hey, don't get me wrong. I have some pretty good pictures of Both Da Mao and Er Shun. Just not during the winter.

But maybe you're right, maybe I should switch my camera to video mode the next time I go. Maybe then things will spice up ;)
 
Oh I know you have good photos. But if you want the cool action clearly he perfers to be uploaded to youtube so why not make the king of comedy happy. He has his devoted fans he needs to entertain.

Have you seen Er Shun doing anything interesting ever? I havent heard of her doing anything entertaining or fun. Hes always the one people talk about. Must be hard living next door to the cute guy everyone fawns over.
 
Wow cypher I thought what you posted on here was great photos. Boy was I wrong. You put us all to shame. Those are amazing photos. The zoo must hire you to be their photographer. You make all the photos on their website look like crap. They need you on staff! Oh imagine how awesome the website would be with your photos... well the rest of it would be lacking the photos would almost demand a better design to match their style and beauty.

You must compete in their next photo contest. You would blow away the competition. I cant even pick out a handful of favourites. They are all so amazing.

One quick question as a result of photos. Is the black wolf you took a couple of pictures of one of the new pack members? Or at another zoo?
