I've just seen a clip of an indoor meerkat exhibit back around 97 when my parents took my brother to the zoo for the first time. There is a big pile of rocks and log fence post.We have so many clips of toronto zoo from over the years its not even funny! We have the bongos, elephants, thika when she was a baby, lions, orangutans, gorillas, tiger cubs and just about every other thing

Does anyone here remember where the colobus monkey, patas monkey and the debrazza's monkey lived?

Ok,this is going to be the most random post ever but I thought maybe this would give us all a laugh.

I was walking through my brothers room last night to get he dog and Anthony (my brother) was sleeping. He alwyas tells us that he's never going to be a waiter and we just say that secretly,he does want to become one.Well,i proved that he did last night beacuse when i was just going past his bed,he started sleep talking and he mumbled "would you like fries with that...and a milkshake too...ok and what would your son like to order?".It was hillarious because he sounded just like one!Ahh,life is fun!

lol. I though Ungulate said that the Culombus monkeys never made it to the zoo?

Hi everyon e,i was just wondering if anyone rememebers Rosi or Winnie having pups?If so,how many, what names and what years. Thanks

I seem to remember a baby one time (can't remember the name), way back in the 1980's, unless my memory's foggy and they were smaller because they were younger.

Up until a few years ago, there were deer in with the yak. Sika, if I remember.

The only baby i've heard of is the last on about 17 years ago named Desman who was born to Rosi and a male i don't remeber,He went to Antwerp in exchange for Timo about 16 years ago?

oh that remind me about a story form the past.I was talking to a keeper who told me that for the first two years,Timo would never come out onto the main habitat!Apparently,at Antwerp they have a bunch of small pools like the side on and Timo was scared of Toronto's big pool. Then, one night a keeper turned off the pump! The next morning he came back to find the whole exhibit flooded with Timo swimming in the front!Ever since, hes been coming out to the front.

I think I remember hearing that about Timo, too!

That might have been the one I was thinking of! I was close enough with the date :P

While we're on the African animals, the zebras also used to have a glass viewing. Somewhere in that collection of photos I need to find and scan, there's a picture of one behind the glass (or plexiglass).

I remember this guy! He was here before Stripes' arrival. I remember never seeing a giraffe this dark before (I believe it was due to his age).

Other past animals I remember is a HUGE Snapping Turtle in the Americas, who passed away not too long after he was placed on exhibit.

I would have thought the zebras would hav damaged the glass? That would have been cool though!WHat are the current zebras right now,Last i remember its Sudi,Blue Jay,Punda,Keisha,Shaka,Shani,Zebrina and Ishana. Why are they having a name contest for Ishana, shes already been named!I put in the names Naima and Ishana.

Maybe that's why they don't have the glass anymore :P I think there was a cable in front of the glass to discourage them from kicking it.

It's mentioned on the TVKids site that Shaka is the only male. I thought Blue Jay was a male but I could be mistaken, unless he was and he passed away recently or sent to another zoo. I put in the name Chipo which means "a gift." I got pictures of her, which I will upload tomorrow (or rather later tonight). I'm a little surprised they're having a baby naming contest, too.

Âèäåî êëèïîâå. Video clip - Gorilla Charlie Toronto Zoo is a video of the old gorilla exhibit.
YouTube - Gumby goes to the zoo cute vid, features many former residents/exhibits

They havn't named the baby zebra yet. I put in a name to but I can't remember now lol. Shaka is the only male zebra, the toronto zoo has 8 zebras not including the new baby, I think. The last time I was there, only 5 on exhibit (the new baby and mother were off exhibit) and Shaka.

I thin Punda and Blue Jay were fairly old

I just watched that video of the old gorilla exhibit.the was terrible.Hard to believe we now have the worlds largest indoor gorilla habitat!

I have nothing new... When did you say you were going next?

Probably the end of September.I'll get some pictures then post them
