Maybe this is one of the reasons I was disappointed last week. My daughter wants me to get a Years membership but where are the animals?

If you live close enough to the zoo, you can get great value out of a zoo membership

Don't know what exactly you mean by "where are the animals", If you mean where did the species go when they left the zoo, Im guessing the USA... not sure what zoo though

When you say most, please say which animals, if they were outside, was the weather bad?

Many of the Toronto Zoo animals have 24 hour access to the off exhibit areas so its possible they just walked out of view to a non-public area

There is also the possibility that the were in a training session, had a baby, had to go the hospital or simply they were just hiding

I think I recall you mentioning you went when it was raining, that was a fairly large storm that hit Toronto, when weather like that happens most animals seek shelter and the keepers something pull the animals indoors.

African Rhinos were off exhibit. There was a sign stating this and of course the Wolves.

Apparently, they will be closing the Canadian Domain and moving all the animals from it.

Someone mentioned this before but I just passed it off as a rumor, now that you bring it up a second time, maybe its true? Do you mean right away or in the long-term. If you mean long-term, this is already known news

The lady who was driving the Zoomobile mentioned it.

Also, I notice the Zoomobile used to go through more scenic drives in the past. Didnt it?

I wonder where they're going to move all the animals to . . .

I remember a more scenic drive, too! The nicest spots it goes over is that bridge by the Indonesia and behind the savannah where you can see the rouge, but I remember it used to take you past the dholes, etc, rather than behind them.

I wonder what's up with Shamboola, the only white rhino. Maybe she was going through a training session/health check up?

The new zoomobile route was made a while back, it was relocated to not interfear with the public pathways, if you are in direr need of seeing animals walk.

The wolves were off exhibit because of the tundra but I am sure you know that, as for Shaboola she hasn't been on exhibit for a good couple of weeks, maybe health problems? I am sure Ungulate would know.

As for the relocation of the Canadian animals, I cannot stress this any more the animals will be moving when new exhibits are built in the Canadian Wilderness, the zoomobile people have been saying this for years now ever since and before construction started on the tundra. If the zoo does decide to close the domain earlier I think it would be a stupid choice.

And (I don't mean to come off nasty but,) out of the 5000+ or (16,000+) animals at the zoo, they were all off exhibit? I am sure you must have mis-read the map of skipped a lot of the zoo.

I know about the wolves. :)

I just thought they had more Monkeys, Lions, etc. We still enjoyed ourselves and especially so with the Stingrays :)

Okay, I thaught you might have been one of those people who need the animals active right when they are viewing them. Sorry, you were referring to the older times. My misunderstanding.

The lion pride is small now and the exhibit is to small for more lions, the plan right now is to phase the current pride out, then possibly expand the exhibit, and replace the pride.

As for monkey species, I think the zoo has grown in the number of species, especially with all of the small primates added in the past 20 years or more.

It is a lovely place regardless. I just miss all the lions and I did not see any Chimpanzees. Did they ever have Chimpanzees there?

Also, anyone remember the bridge at the entrance of the zoo. Well I remember we used to be able to feed the Salmon from it.:)

I was just thinking that maybe its not that Shaboola is sick, but in fact maybe she is moving to another zoo to make room for the rhinos from Africa?

I remember reading an old article that mentioned the zoo used to have chimps back in the 1970s when it opened, but then decided to keep gorillas instead. I can't really see why they didn't decide on both species (North Carolina Zoo has both chimps and gorillas), as I can imagine how impressive it'd be to have all the great apes.

I think part of the zoo's decision to phase out the existing pride is in part of the SSP's plans on creating new, pure bloodlines for African lions (using wild caught animals, if I remember).

Salmon feeding? Neat! I don't remember that.

Good thinking on Shamboola!

Its possible Zoogoer, but Ungulate mentioned she will be staying and the new rhinos introduced to her.

The zoo never had chimps if I recall, and haven't heard of any talk about them before. As for feeding salmon, I guess it would be cool if the Toronto Zoo wasn't so high class, because of this most of the feeding would be looked to as animal cruelty, I don't know why but thats the way our society works.
