Toronto Zoo Toronto Zoo Master Plan 2022

@Elliot A., you are right this is going to be costly to complete but the zoo has done its research and its planning for its future. There is no way on earth they will ever get through this in the timeline predicted... though they are ticking off some of the smaller projects faster than I suspected they would. Almost all projects run way over on time so it would be surprising if they got most of it done. We have been waiting on the orang outdoor for what a decade?

Secondly the zoo has a new fundraising foundation. They will be working hard to build the relationships necessary to fund an increasing amount of projects through donations. They are already off to a great start with their contributions to the orang exhibit. Give them time and the might be able to move mountains.

Thirdly as the zoo improves and reinvents itself continually and impressively it is going to draw more visitors to help contribute to those projects. They build a loyal base of guests but can also attract new ones. Its about building for the future.

The plan has also been smart in including revenue generating projects. The hotel once up and running will generate a profit for the zoo. The brewery would be pretty lucrative in all likelihood. The daycare... ok I cant see that being super profitable (compared to the others) but it will be huge in forging lifelongs bonds between the zoo and families. Each non animal project that can produce a profit for the zoo can funnel money back into the zoo to balance things out more.

Is the zoo costly? Yes. Cant argue it but I do think the zoo will do what it can to generate as much profit from add ons as it can to help keep the zoo as affordable as possible for as many as possible. Its a balancing act but the zoo has a great team in place to walk that fine line.

I totally agree that the team behind this is one of the best it can possibly be. I'm excited to watch the zoo grow over the years and see this dream become a reality.

It's a wonderful plan. I mean I dont like elements of it but that is because I dont think we need certain things and would rather that money be used elsewhere or I dont get why they would do that thing. Overall though it is far far far better than the last master plan. Thankfully that team didnt care enough to get moving on much if any of it. The difference in leadership is like night and day. We will be so much better off when its time for the next master plan if we can keep this team than we ever would have been under the last team where we might have got the orang exhibit and that would be pretty much it.

There's talk about an update to the strategic plan which we will start to hear about next month. It probably won't be out for a while after, but it seems that it will be a constantly evolving document.
