There are 8 orangutans at Toronto Zoo

Females
Ramai
Puppe
Sekali
Jahe (Puppe's 1997 daughter)
Jingga (Ramai's 2006 daughter)

Males
Molek
Budi (Puppe's 2006 son)
Kembali (Sekali's 2006 son)

They are seperated into two groups of Ramai/Jingga/Sekali/Kembali and Puppe/Budi/Jahe with Molek switching every other day beetween the two groups

The reason this split group system is in place is do to the fact that Ramai and Puppe do not get along

The reason Sekali is with Ramai is becuase they are very close (Sekali was born to Abby in 1992, Abby rejected her so Ramai raised her instead)

I was reading this post and I thought i'd add to it

Twigga x Stripes (Masai Giraffe)
Mya x Rafiki (Cheetah) Note: Mya is currently pregnant with there first litter
Jack JR x Pumba (Warthog)
Simon x Sabrina (Red River Hog) Note: They have had two litters, but breeding is now halted
Luke x Shamwari (Cheetah) Note: No pregnancy confirmed yet
Luke x Mya (Cheetah) Note: Former pair, have bred two litters successfully
Elliot x Ashley (Moose)
 
Sad news: the zoo's last musk ox passed away yesterday.

Also, two male wood bison have recently been moved up to fill the former wisent exhibit.

Are you serious? Tears, one of my fav. animals at the zoo. He looked so healthy on Sunday. He will be missed. Another phase out species phased out...
 
This is two mammal phase outs complete this year with wisent being the first
 
Does anyone know of any new animal arrivals, surely there is something!
 
Fauna the clouded leopard was recently euthanized due to kidney failure; only Merriweather now remains in Malayan Woods.
 
O that's horrible. R.I.P Fauna. Do you know if the zoo will aquire another clouded leopard or any info on the future of Malyan Woods?

I wonder if they will maybe aquire a male now or a new breeding pair (Probably to early to think about that though)
 
One zoo volunteer once told me that its really hard to get a male to like a female, half the times the male ends up killing the female.
 
Usually thats why they either get a very young pair (about 6 months to a year old) or the male is much younger and smaller than the female
 
I don't know what will happen, I can obnly predict, and the zoo has a long list of things to do (I know I sound like I think it happens over nigh, but I know it doesn't) before they get to the leopards. Like is there any new news on the 2 female rhinos from South Africa?
 
Just wanted to let you guys know, I heard today that we got a male white rhino in from the US yesterday! The work is still being done on the 2 females!
 
Wow, great news! Do you happen to know his lineage or where he is from?

I wonder if maybe Shaboola could breed? Or would she be too old?
 
Shaboola is post reproductive and cannot breed but the zoo plans of exhibiting her with the new male. I do not know where he came from.
 
The new rhino is from Disney; his name is "Tom" (after rhino conservationist Tom Foose) and he is only 2 or 3 years old.
