No comment on the polar bears ... BUT some other news:
A baby gaur was born this week (it's another boy)
Four (?) pied cormorants arrived and are in quarantine, to return to the "cormorant pool" in Australasia this summer

Is last years baby gaur still at TZ. Also, I was checking ISIS and it metioned we only have 1.2 gaurs. I always thought we had more then that with a few females, a male and then the babies
Well, we know the female is Flower. But the real msytery is about the males. Im just wondering if the 2 males it shows are Forrest and Baby 2009,Father Gaur and Baby 2009 or maybe even its all three but the unknown is the baby. I think this might take investigating to crack the case
Just to clarify, Hercules (adult male), and Flower (adult female), produced Forrest (young male) last year and 2009 Baby (male) this year. Hope this helps the confusion! the 2 of (2.1.1) is the males, the first 1 of (2.1.1.) is Flower and the second 1 of (2.1.1) is the 2009 baby.
As you all know, the "Summer Season" is just around the corner. Stingray Bay is also back. The member preview nights are May 11 and 12 from 6 to 8. I am hopefully going to go on the 11. I wonder when the sharks and rays are going to arrive at the zoo?
On a side note, I may be going to the zoo on Sunday.
I've not been inside the tent myself yet, but I have seen a few photos. The sharks and rays are all together in the pool; some of the nurse sharks look quite large. I have not heard about the horseshoe crabs.
Unsure of where to put this but, one question I have always wondered is where they put the surplus male mandrills in the winter. I know where they are housed in the summer but in the winter where are they?
I think I answered that question the last time I went to the zoo. They are kept in the hyena house. Well one was, when I last went. I was watching the hyenas sleep and then all of a sudden I see this mandrill pop out of no where, in an off exhibit yard for the hyenas I guess? I went to get a picture but he jumped back in the house. I found that very interesting.
Off the top of my head, some of the current breeding pairs include:
Charles x Ngozi (Western Lowland Gorilla)
Puff Daddy x Savannah (Sable Antelope)
Tonghua x Tatiana (Siberian Tiger)
Rengant x Brytne (Sumatran Tiger)
Shaka x Shani (Grevy's Zebra)
Hercules x Flower (Guar)
Tigga x Koda (Snow Leopard)
Puff Daddy has a choice who he wishes to breed with it can be Savannah or Millie, as well as Shaka, this year I think they are trying to breed Shani and another zebra, unsure of name.
Well as for departures, I know that there is a male and female west African dwarf crocs being transported to Japan as soon as the zoo they are going for gets a permit to do so.
