Thank you for that great big update Ungualte :)

I was praying that the zebra who died was not Shani (altough this death is still very sad) as it would have set back our breeding a fair bit

Thank you for that explanation on the amur tigers, I hope we do end up getting a new breeding pair within the near future

And very very exciting about the babirusa's :D, We've been talking about them since I joined Zoochat... so it will be extremely nice to have them (Especially as a mixed exhibit with the gibbons)

P.S. Can our gibbons breed? I had heard they were a sibling duo and Lenny was neutered, but it would be nice if they could actually breed

Our gibbons cannot breed, I am not sure if they are siblings but i know they are both quite old and will not be breeding.

No, the gibbons are not related - nor is either one sterilized. However, they are both approaching 35 years of age, and it is highly unlikely that they could successfully breed at this point.

If memory serves me right, someone posted that TZ had a second litter of cheetahs babies born (this time with two babies) and I'm wondering if anyone knows if all is well. I ask only because they were not mentioned in the most recent Collections magazine with the announcement of the first litter.

I never saw an actual announcement, but... there was specualtion that a second cheetah (Shamwari) may become pregnant as she was paired with a 2X proven male (Luke

I was just wondering that! Funnily enough, I was just seeing if there were any plans for the Canadian/North American pavilion because I dreamed about it, and the entrance of it was based on the Niagara Escarpment with a really nice Massasauga Rattlesnake exhibit. I wish I knew what company was going to design/build these projects.

Oh, wait . . .This is it?

Thanks Meaghan! Those are some awesome plans. (:
I was overlooking the Giant Panda Exhibit plans and they look awesome. (: Golden Monkeys too? I doubt that. >.>

You're very welcome! That looks like a huge Giant Panda exhibit. I'd be great if we could get the Golden Monkeys too, but for some reason they seem to be harder for zoos to get than Giant Pandas. At least in North America, anways.

Has anyone heard of any recent departures/arrivals/deaths? Rosi is due to be gone by now, and the capybara should arriving soon (Where are these guys coming from?

Just thought i'd give a little update on Punda the zebra (name ring a bell?) at Phoenix Zoo in Arizona (Some of us remember Punda, he left from TZ for Phoenix in 2006/2007)

Since moving, he has sired two male foals there. He was never bred here, so his genes were never really represented

With that, I was wondering if Shani is scheduled to be bred with Shaka again or is she already pregnant?

Rosi is gone now I am half sure she left in February. The capybara are still on the waiting list to come in! I think we may have capybara sooner then we expect!

Nope, she's still in Toronto ... Louisville is waiting on permits, so there is no official departure date for Rosi.

If you're up Savannah-way this spring/summer, you'll notice we have a new male kudu "Owen" (still a wee kid!) and a new male ostrich (whose name excapes me at the moment).

Unfortunately, Tigger the hyena passed away earlier in the month, and Woozle is currently living off-exhibit due to medical treatment. Two new hyenas are slated to arrive in the future.

I thought someone said the hyenas were phase-outs and then after they all passed that we'd be recieving African Wild Dogs? If these two new hyenas do arrive, will they be able to breed?

Sorry about the mistake guys!

My info. is a bit dated she was supposed to leave in Feb.!

I thought the hyenas were supposed to be phased out?

Ungulate,

have you heard anything about the pandas or penguins lately?
