Toronto Zoo Toronto Zoo New Animals, Departures and Deaths 2012

Speaking of babies, in addition, Common Marmoset babies and Egyptian fruit bat babies are on display as well. Seems the bats are rotating with the adults on/off exhibit.
 
Was at the zoo yesterday, saw a few things:
-Helmeted Guineafowl are in the old Caracaral Enclosure
-Pacific octupus is in it's refurbished enclosure
-Crowned Cranes are in with the Ring-tailed Lemurs
-Tent Tortises are in the nile monitor enclsure
-All the old aquariums in the Indo-Malya Pavillion are boarded up
-The Slider enclosure in the Americas is empty and drained
-Babarusas are in the outdoor area for the Malayan Tapiars
-2 Snowy Owls are now on exhibit
-The baby peguin is visable during most hours of the day. He can be seen though the vewing window that show the indoor enclosure. They built him his own little pen
-Both of our tigers are still in thier appropriate enclosures
-Hornbills are off display
-There are Giant Gourmi in the Indo-Malaya Tank
-The Elephants now have Security Cameras on them, there are many covering the entire exhibit

Hercules wasn't one of those animals you don't expect to be endeared by but every time I visited the Gaur Pavillion there he'd be and he who snort and paw the ground like he was going to charge me may he rest in peace
Ps does anyone know how long he was there and how many calves he sired?
 
I believe Hercules arrived around 2004/2005, and sired 4 calves (Atleast at TZ)
 
Another death yesterday was Percy, the Scimitar Horned Oryx died due to old age.
 
And with that, another species has now been phased out of the zoo
 
When we were at the zoo over march break, The elephant trainers were working with the girls and doing a Q&A, their goal is April 30 for the elephants to leave, only if the elephants go in the creates on their own, If they are not doing that by then they well stay longer.
 
The zoo has lost so many animals this year, is deppressing me. Hopefuly this will bring good change.
 
Awe it sucks that Percy died and that the Scimitar Horned Oryx have been phased out they have been my favourite animals at the zoo since I was a kid
 
I remember as a child, and I might be thinking of Busch Gardens, but I remember they had a great big herd at one point. Ah, the days when there were more ungulates in North American zoos. I would welcome the addition of more ungulates at Toronto. Fingers crossed for this with the Eurasian renovations.
 
And his name is Hudson! What a good choice for a polar bear!
