A quick but important note:
As per the 2022 Piciformes TAG Regional Collection Plan (AZA), the Dallas World Aquarium does hold blue-throated toucanet (Aulacorhynchus caeruleogularis). The document indicates DWA holds 8.6 of the species (14 in total).
The Dallas World Aquarium also holds spot-billed toucanet (Selenidera maculirostris) indicating 3.3 of the species (6 in total).
Other notes from the 2022 Piciformes TAG Regional Collection Plan (AZA):
As we know, the Dallas World Aquarium has the largest and most diverse collection of Piciformes in the AZA. The facility alone is home to 9 species in the Ramphastidae family (toucans, toucanets, and araçaris) that cannot be found anywhere else within the AZA. The RCP indicates an interesting note within the document, "One AZA accredited institution, The Dallas World Aquarium currently holds a disproportionate number of Aracaris (69%), Toucanets (86%), and Toucans (49%). The TAG will work closely with this critical member institution and respective SSP coordinators to encourage a level of program compliance that is beneficial to both the institution and the AZA populations" (page, 17).
Species exclusively held at DWA:
I also think it is important to note that 96 AZA institutions did not respond to the RCP. This means that if these institutions hold any Piciformes, they were not included in the final species count. Most, if not all, of the institutions that did not respond do not hold any toucan/toucanet/araçari species to my knowledge.
All other species held within the AZA have been previously mentioned in this thread. I have no numbers on individuals and species held outside of the AZA.
