New Elephant Enclosure
In the Toyohashi Zoo, Prefecture Aichi, a new outdoor facility for Asian elephants was completed on April 21, 2019. The new facility comprises 4,400 sqm. The Toyohashi Zoo made headlines in 2011 when on September 17, 2011 0.1 Asian Elephant "Mara" was born. The parents were "Dana" & "Asha". "The bull "Dana came to the zoo on Dec. 11, 1973 and the cow "Asha" was given to the zoo by the Ueno Zoo in 2008. Unfortunately the calf died on Aug.13, 2017.
