Travel advice for Duisburg & Wuppertal

Hi there

I am hoping our German colleagues on the forum can assist me with this quick enquiry and save me some time searching German train websites...

I am going to Dusseldorf for the weekend and want to visit both Duisburg and Wuppertal zoos.

I will be staying in Dusseldorf near the central train station and would like to get the train west to Duisburg on 1 day and east on the other day to Wuppertal,

Could anyone advise of the trains I need to catch (eg S-Bahn line, final destinations, etc) and if the stations in Duisburg and Wuppertal are near the zoos.

Sorry, can't help with directions. But good luck (both those zoos are great).

If you can't coordinate both visits I'd strongly recommend checking out Dusseldorf Aquazoo on your doorstep (a real gem with some really obscure specimens well displayed).
 
Trains go between Düsseldorf, Dusiburg and Wuppertal all the time. You will need a regional or IC train but just check the schedules posted at the train station in Düsseldorf. DB train schedules are easy enough to understand and you should have no problem.

To get to Wuppertal Zoo you need to take train to Wuppertal Hbf (main station) and then the Schwebebahn from Wuppertal Hbf to the Zoo/Stadion st. The Schwebebahn is a kind of suspended monorail hanging over the Wupper River and is quite fun to ride. It is easy to find and located just outside Wuppertal Hbf.

Duisburg Zoo is located within walking distance from Duisburg Hbf. It will take you around 20-30 minutes to get there. I suggest you check Google Earth to get an idea of the direction.

Thank you Toddy - very helpful - and yes, the aquazoo looks good too but need to prioritise unfortuntely! I think there may be maintenance work on the underhang train but will check.

Yassa - thanks for link, just hoping someone would be able to help me quickly, as this has all come up very quickly without much research time.
