It has not taken too long for the new male to make his mark and that the pack is now a little bigger. I wish them all the best and hopefully some will eventually find their way back to the wild in North Carolina and other SE states.
On May 10th, the zoo officially sexed the wolves as (2.2). On August 8th, the zoo officially announced the names of the wolves, Lincoln, Rocky, Rosie, and Tulip.

Mom and the new baby are doing great. The Trevor Zoo is home to seven chinchillas. Both species of chinchilla (long and short-tailed) are currently listed as Endangered by the IUCN Red List, due to a severe population loss of 90% over the last 15 years. The population decline has been caused by chinchilla hunting by humans. Chinchilla’s are a SAFE (Saving Animals From Extinction) species at AZA zoos. The goal of the Chinchilla SAFE program is to develop, coordinate, and lead the AZA community’s support for the Chilean government’s recovery and conservation plans for short-tailed and long-tailed chinchillas. A big thank you to our tireless staff, and their infinite patience, for making this happen. And a huge shout-out to our maintenance crew for refurbishing the exhibit space, which included cleaning, painting, and new perching. As many of you might remember, Oscar came to us last September after he was rescued by the Washington State Police, Fish and Wildlife, and Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium in Tacoma, Washington. Oscar was found abandoned on June 23rd at a highway rest-stop near Yakima, Washington. After a thorough medical exams, and bringing him back to a healthy weight as he was extremely malnourished, the folks at Point Defiance began a search for Oscar’s permanent home. We are glad he made his way to the Trevor Zoo. Kinkajous are native to the rain forests of Central and South America. It is the only member of the genus Potos and is also known as the "honey bear”. They can live up to 40 years in captivity. Kinkajous have very sharp teeth and claws and can be easily disturbed. So please remember, they are not pets.
