Any idea on what happened to Triang (Teriang) at Zoo Negara? Elephant data base still lists him as alive and at the zoo, although the zoo has told me that he is no longer with them. They also have not informed me whether or not he is still alive.

I has been confirm that Triang is died on 2018. Seen the stories posted by the care taker of him in Zoo Negara. So sad due to he is so handsome male with long tusk !

That is too bad.

If I am correct Zoo Negara has 0.2 left: Siti (female, born 1983) and Sibol (female, born 1984). Both females with Teriang (male, born 1980) originally came from Pahang Federal State, Malaysia (mainland).

POST SCRIPTUM: @elefunz, Be nice to have regular updates on Zoo Negara about new births, iconic animals that have recently passed away and news items about developments and new exclosures and animal exchanges with other zoos in the region or beyond!!!!

I still remember the first baby elephant born at Zoo Negara, the offspring of its parents, Triang and Sibol. The baby elephant was named Rani. Unfortunately, she passed away a few months later. I’m not entirely sure of the cause of death, but it could have been due to a strong impact from her mother or perhaps a common disease affecting elephants in captivity, such as EEHV.

That was the first time I heard about an elephant giving birth at Zoo Negara, which happened around 2002. I tried searching for articles about it online, as I had read it in the newspapers, but I couldn’t find them anymore since they’ve likely been archived.

Since then, Zoo Negara’s elephants have not given birth again.
