Any other fish keepers? I currently have 9 fish in my South American themed tank, with:
2 neon tetra
2 cardinal tetra
5 flame tetra
I've had it for nearly two years now, and have previously housed 8 more neon tetra, 3 more cardinal tetra, 3 male guppies, 5 rummy-nosed tetra, and 3 corydoras catfish. I would like to introduce more cardinals/neons in the future, as well as a couple more tetra species such as black neons, and some larger fish.
 
I keep cold water fish myself, as I haven't really got the time or money to go tropical, but I work in an aquatic pet shop, and sell cold water, tropical and marine fish and inverts. I see loads of different types of fish coming in. That's a nice mix you've got. You don't often see themed-tanks at home. Most peoples I get fish for have a variety of tetras, mollies, fighters etc. The usual lot.

Lol, I've been there about... 9 months now, and I've never sold a blind cave fish. Nobody wants them. =(

hmm are they tropical and would they live with cardinal tetras?? im interested XD

One of the subjects I teach is fishkeeping - for a unit in our BTEC National Diploma in Animal Care.
Blind cave fishes are renowned for being very hardy, although I have never kept them myself. The water in their natural habitat in Mexico is cooler and more alkaline than the water in the Amazonian streams where cardinals are found. Also blind caves grow much larger than cardinals and swim quite fast, so they might be rather intimidating. I'd keep cardinals with other small tetras, as haz_cat does: I like glowlights and pretty tetras and dwarf pencilfishes, and salt-and-pepper catfishes (Corydoras habrosus) if you can find them, but there are lots of similar species.

how long do tetras live? ive forgotten :D :D :D! if it is like 2 years could get the fish a couple years from now!
 
I used to have a tropical fishtank, over the years i kept... mollies, siames fighting fish, ram cichlids, red finned black shark (not advised if you have delicate species!) some very large catfish and a few other species.

Our tank now has goldfish, but once i move out/ pursuade my mum, it will house an axalotl, or two!

Do you know, I'm not sure.
All I know is, we have some and we can't shift them.
I doubt we'll get another lot when we do eventually sell the ones we have.
Its been nine months. Not one has died, not one has been sold.
 
Having only just moved 2000kms i dont have any fish. but have just ordered a large tank for some Volitans Lionsfish!

There are a number of new Tetra species around now it might pay to have a look around for them, try serching the net and see what you can find
 
I have a 5ft tropical aquarium, actually just had people over for dinner.

I was asked "do fish get bored".

I assume that my fish have allot of enrichment from,

3 x Air release points in the tank some bigger than others. Creating allot of movement.
The variety of fish.
Fish like molly’s and sword fish 1.3 seem to create allot of activity.
5 male guppies are always on the move.
Constantly looking for food.
Constantly looking to see if l am approaching the tank to feed them. They seem to be able to differentiate between me and other people or am I imagining this? As l am the only 1 to feed them.

So do fish get bored?

I think that the Siamese fighters at the aquarium in those horrible little jars look bored!

I actually do not have a filter in the tank, app every 6-8 weeks l use gravel cleaner and drain app 1/3 from tank and clean glass when necessary. Seems to work very well.

Cooly loaches would be my favourite fish,

seems an interesting questions im not actually quite sure, but i do know my african giant land snails like a good game of football with a flowerpot!

I know the type you mean. We sell about eight different types. But during the week, particularly mid week, it gets quite quiet so thats when we clean the glass. You get a cleaner tank if you do it by hand. Plus, there's about... 150 tanks. So much simpler to do it by hand.

And kind of theraputic, also.
