The Sea Turtle Recovery Center was struck by lightning and caught fire last light during heavy storms. Pickles, a Kemp’s Ridley Sea Turtle, had difficulty breathing and heart rate dropped, however Pickles is fine this morning. The Sea Turtles are going to move to the Atlantic Marine Conservation Society in New York while damage is assessed and the fire is investigated.

On October 14th, the zoo announced they will reopen the Sea Turtle Recovery Center to the public on October 18th.

* On October 8th, it seemed like the zoo completed work on the new Animal Wellness Center and announced it too early but I cannot find any confirmation they completed it online.
I visited a few months ago and it seemed done even then. I will make a visit in the coming weeks to confirm.

This is very sad. But, 20 is a great lifespan for a lion.
So I did visit last week. The exterior is completely finished, but it seems like they're finishing the interior still. I expect it to be open early next year.

On January 2nd, 2025, the zoo announced they moved their (1.1) snow leopards Gala and Chameli to an off-display exhibit due to old age. Their former exhibit will display Amur leopards for the time being.
