Turtle Island, Graz

From FB :

"The Southern Vietnamese box turtle (Cuora picturata) is a poorly studied species of terrestrial turtle endemic to the montane regions of Southern Vietnam, and is listed as critically endangered by the IUCN.
Very little is known about the natural history of this species, but what little information is available to researchers suggests that populations of these reptiles are rapidly declining due to a variety of stressors.
Turtle Island is participating in an EEP (European Endangered Species Programme) and therefore receives two adult breeding males from the International Center for Turtle Protection (Zoo Münster) to pair them with 4 females. Turtle Island will have one of the few conservation breeding groups on the planet, and will hopefully be able to improve the condition of this species in the wild."

I tried a month ago and failed. They are not interested in visits of zoo fans or enthusiasts.

Damn, thats a real shame. Turtles are my absolute favorites, and they have a number of bucketlist species. Hell I would pay just to catch a peek at a Cane Turtle...
