TV Series you are into

Alright, time for an update on what I've been watching:

I'm literally not watching any TV at the moment, there is nothing on that interests me. And nothing likely to in the near future except for the third season of Miranda, due to start in December. So I've just been watching stuff on my laptop, as follows:

-Homeland - I got the rest of season one on the weekend, will start watching that this week. Should be able to pick up season two at Christmas.
-Game of Thrones - I have watched the first season of this and really liked it, so I also picked up the second season of this, but the episodes are in different formats, and only eps 1, 2, 4 and 7 are watchable on my computer. And there wasn't enough room on my memory stick for the last episode anyway, so I'm missing that too.
-Six Feet Under - I bought the first season of this show on the weekend, and have watched the first three episodes so far. And I'm already ready to buy the complete 5-season box set. It is very good, and it was pretty funny last night (the sister stole an old man's foot (he'd been cut up in a dough mixer!) and dumped it in her ex-boyfriends locker at school, the ensuing chaos was classic :D).
-Absolutely Fabulous - The other DVD I bought on the weekend was the new Ab Fab special episodes released last Christmas and for the Olympics. I've already seen them all a couple of times, but I'll probbaly schedule an Ab Fab night later this week when we can watch them all again!

Zooboy, you make NZ sound like the Congo for Internet. ;) between you and that other Kiwi, I am not sure who is further behind the times with technology. At least his excuse is that he is old, so what's yours? :P

Folks, I have bad news: anything that Rachael Taylor touches turns to dust, because after Charlie's Angels failed, now 666 Park Avenue is being cancelled. :( Last Resort is also being cancelled. I am of the opinion that Americans should not be responsible for what stays on TV, because the really good shows get the axe, only to be replaced by crap like Honey Boo Boo (google it).

How am I not technologically advanced? I use the internet, I just don't download stuff cos it uses? up too much (so I get other people to do it). Wait, is there other technology...?

I agree that Americans should not make decisions on programming, they always cancel the good stuff.

It uses up too much what? Electricity? Time in the Internet cafe? :P

Didn't you say somewhere else that you were not really into smart phones? That's like my great grandmother saying back in the day that she was into telegrams but not the telephone. ;)

It uses up too much "internet" :D I presumed this was a universal thing, but perhaps not. Here you pay your IP for x amount of internet per month, ours is about 20GB. If you go over that, the internet slows down to dial-up speed, and you can't do much that's useful.

I have a smartphone (there's an oxymoron for you), but I hate it. In fact, I don't even have it at the moment, I have a "loan phone", as my stupid piece-of-sh*t phone won't charge, so I had to take it in to get fixed. As it is, I really don't have any use for a smartphone, as I only use my phone to text, and occassionally ring people. I find the phone very difficult to use, and its also very expensive to use the internet functions, apps, etc. I'm incredibly cheap, so I avoid spending any money on it if possible. Finally, I don't actually need to use the internet on my phone at all, I can just use my laptop at home - I have no need for the internet anywhere else.

Having said all that, I don't dislike smartphones, just my smartphone. I fully expect to get a new smartphone next year (and be able to gleefully smash up my current one with a mallet), and I will get one that I actually like to use, and will invest time, money and effort into learning to utilise all it offers.

"Six Feet Under" is a great series, possibly an all-time classic. I think that you'll like the whole thing if you stick with it.

If you have any interest at all in westerns, or even if you don't, I would also recommend "Deadwood". One of the truly great shows of all time. HBO has really produced some classics.

I always get the impression that people who carry on all the time about using their phones to access the internet blah blah blah somehow think that having the latest gadgets makes them superior to others. Its like when mobile phones first came out and they were the size of shoeboxes and the yuppies would walk around talking into them VERY LOUDLY BECAUSE I AM IMPORTANT AND I HAVE A MOBILE PHONE, and then the phone would ring......

Personally I can't see why you would want to bother trying to look at a website on a phone screen!

I am sticking with it, some of the storylines are rather slow, but overall its been great so far. My partner won't watch it because every episode starts with a death, so that means I can watch it quite quickly.

HBO has made heaps of shows I like, current favourites are True Blood and Game of Thrones. I will add Deadwood to the list of HBO shows to watch in the future, along with The Sopranos, The Wire and Entourage.

Showtime is the other network (?) that makes some really great shows: Homeland and The Big C are shows I'm watching currently, and I'm halfway through the 7th (and pentultimate) season of Weeds. My all time favourite from Showtime was Queer as Folk.

Gosh, I thought FrankWilliam had hacked your account for a moment there! :D

I don't really watch too much TV.

*I'll watch TV specials and episodes of shows that include animals

Shows I sometimes watch:

Nah, only those with no smartphone have an inferiority complex. ;) Maybe 5yrs ago it was a big deal, but now it's standard and a non issue. Even the cheapest phones and packages come with Internet. Given the fact that you post so regularly here, I strongly suspect that you have a phone with Internet access. ;) I figured you out. :D

I do not have access to the Internet for personal use at work, so a phone with Internet is essential to check mail and post on the forum etc.

Being online and posting a lot doesn't mean you automatically have a phone with internet. I don't:D

Also add Alcatraz to the shows people tell me to watch.

Alcatraz got cancelled after one season and they did not get the opportunity to tie up the story. It was all quite disappointing really.

One new series that I am enjoying is Primeval: New World. It is a spin-off of the UK series but is considerably darker and obviously intended for a more adult audience. The basic plot is that anomalies (sparkling doorways in time) are opening and letting through prehistoric (and futuristic) animals.
There have been 5 episodes of 13 so far but since I can't watch it on Space I am watching it on Youtube. But when it comes out, I fully intend to get this series on DVD.

I haven't heard of this show, it sounds rather interesting. I have seen the first three seasons of Primeval, but the last two are still expensive on DVD. I might rent them actually, as they only have a small number of episodes each. The one thing I really didn't like about Primeval was the huge turnover of characters, which I found frustrating.

I will endevour to acquire this new series in the near future.

Although I would still recommend seeing the last 2 series (for continuity if nothing else) I would say that they were probably my least favourite series- it would probably be better to just rent at first.

I agree with that in part as well- it was particularly annoying at the start of series 4 when production moved to Ireland. Basically anyone who couldn't make it over there was written out and never mentioned again.

I really do recommend seeing it. This new version has a real sense of danger that doesn't seem to be present in the UK version- I guess because it is aired later they show more blood and gore, which I think is more appropriate for a show dealing with meat-eating dinosaurs.

I have never seen Primeval. Can I start with this new series and be ok?

Also, is the CGI really poor and at the usual crappy TV standard?
