Since there is a thread for Taronga's updates and news I thought there should be one for TWPZ. There is actually alot going on out there at the moment. Some of which you will be made aware of over the next few weeks. So for now:

First thing Tuesday morning the temp fencing around the $400,000 playground came down, it's awesome fun, very nice and the kids love it. The official opening was this morning, might be on the news tonight.

More updates to come as there have been some pretty cool things happen. If your in or near Dubbo over the next few weeks I strongly recommend a Roar and Snore, or a stay at Zoofari Lodge, or even an early morning walk. you never know what you might see or hear about. ;)

Thanks for that Torie, I would say that is Doras new friend, I hope she settles down well.

What is the current status of the black rhino group?
Would i be right in saying it has been a while since the last birth in the group?

Sorry to change the topic, but 2 young female Addax are heading to Western Plains from Werribee Zoo in the next few months.

:)

Unsure of the number of whites, I think it's 11 but have also heard there are 9 so not totally sure there. The black rhino complex is massive and very kindly funded by Kerry Packer.

Puppies puppies puppies

Have been busting to get this out for the last two months. but finally it is on the news.

TWPZ has had some cape Hunting Dog Puppies. They are very cute and went on display today. Although last time I saw them they were nearly half the size of their mum.

TWPZ has two packs of wild Dogs a breeding and a non breeding. The female that had the pups was imported, can't remember where from and took something like six months for her to be introduced as the hunting dogs are among the closest of family units. if your in your in if your out your probably dead.

Very exciting news, if you get the chance get out there and have a look. Should be hearing some more news about other animals in the coming weeks.

I am sure a number of Small zoos would put their hands up and take a non breeding group.

About $300 a head?

That's some excellent information...Thank-you. :)

The zoo's next development is about to begin. The new entry precinct. With the information centre, shop, grazery etc being moved over today and tomorrow so that work can commence. It is expected to take up to 18 months for the redevelopment.

I personally think that as winter is the quietest time of year for TWPZ that it woul have been better to time the redevelopment to cover two winters rather than two springs/summers.
