Twycross Zoo Twycross visit 3/4 October

There's no reason why anywhere else with a good record of Ape-keeping couldn't have them either, but as you said, Gorillas are more likely to be the first choice if a new species is being added.

Weren't Bristol hoping to obtain Bonobo for the new zoo?

Thanks for all that info about the history of the 'Green Mile' Pertinax. It's quite sobering to think of 2 pairs of orangs, 1 pair of gorillas AND chimps all once occupying this small area ...... especially if you say the exterior wasn't as large as it is now.

I also agree that the biggest concern about this area is the lack of natural socialisation for the chimps as opposed to aesthetics of their surroundings (which probably matters more to the visitors). Who cares if paintwork is a bit shabby after all ........ though I still think it's important to give the animals as large a space as possible, with maximum climbing opportunities, space to get away from it all and other forms of enrichment.

Chester could do Bonobos well I am sure, in their 'Heart of Africa' building.

I would like to see this also, however I think that they should be given the Old Chimp house if they all move to HoA.

But until we know what the likely plans are for that Area once HoA is built we will only be guessing.

it didn't seem too bad then, they were no worse off than in a lot of other zoos( e.g. Dudley, Belle Vue etc)
