Twycross Zoo Twycross Zoo information signs

Hi,

I hope this ok to ask as I have never been a member here.
I am a primary school teacher and in a couple of weeks I am taking my class to Twycross zoo as part of our Rainforests topic.
I am hoping to create a question pack for the children (who are 9 and 10) to find out about the animals as they make their way round the zoo, I did go an look round to plan the day but stupidly I forgot to take pictures of any animal information signs so I am not sure what information the children will be able to find out.
So before I went with how many x did you spot, think of a word to describe y type questions, I wondered if anybody here happens to have any photos of the current information available.
Or is able to suggest something the children may be able to find out?

Thank you so much.

Welcome! You've probably done this already, but have you tried contacting the zoo directly? Like most zoos they'll have a dedicated education team who may be able to help

Hi,
Yes thank you, I have they have said they have an activity/trail available to pick up but I wanted to have something ready in case it wasn't suitable for their age.
We do also have a session with the education team. I just want something to keep them focused the rest of the day. .

There are some examples of signs from Twycross in the media gallery about the zoo

Which might be useful.

Hi! Like Lafone said you can find some information from the signs in the media gallery.

I wouldn’t suggest doing questions like how many can you spot as the animals (e.g chimpanzees) are all snuggled up together in the nests so it can be hard to count them sometimes. And they can be in the back areas which are behind the scenes. It would be a good question for the larger species like the giraffes (At the zoo there are two males, Brad and Setanta)

If you want to teach the children about animals on the brink of extinction it would be good to ask questions like why are they going extinct. Every sign in the zoo will have all of this information on. You can also find all of this information on the zoos website.

If your doing a rainforest topic you could ask the children to list 5 animals which live in a rainforest biome and as an extra challenge tell you why they are threatened in the wild e.g habitat loss or hunting.

Twycross Zoos education team is fantastic. They are very passionate about teaching people about the natural world and the animals at Twycross zoo. I hope you have a great time!
