In that case miracles do happen!!I wonder if Drayton Manor have the only breeding pair of Lar Gibbons that produce White-cheeked Gibbons then?
News on the opening of the new Asian elephant walkway:
Asian elephant walkway ?Uda Walawe? Now Open | Twycross Zoo
I think its Zoospeak for a pathway along the back of the outdoor elephant enclosure.
Interesting they are linking it up with Sri Lanka as a theme, though their elephants mostly came from Burma....![]()
I wonder if they'll install a life-like recreation of a tamil village being massacred along the meandering path.....
Actually the part they are opening on wednesday is only the footpath round the otherside of the Elephant enclosure with all the wonderfull themeing that goes with Elephanys in Sri Lankan, when the Carnivora bit gets done i guess will be sometime after the zoo applys for and gets planning permisssion to start building it!Now that's not nice.....
It does seem they are creating another themed exhibit here similar to the Borneo Longhouse area- but again the species being exhibited aren't matching the theme properly. They should have species such as Leopard and Sloth bears, not Asian Lions and Dholes if they want to do it properly, though I appreciate its not too easy to make such drastic changeovers.
BBC Website said:Twycross Zoo in Leicestershire opens the first in the world themed Sri Lankan elephant walkway and habitat - named 'Uda Walawe'.
The brand new £1 million home, for five Asian elephants, was officially opened by Sri Lanka's High Commissioner in July 2010.
Are there actually any Sri Lankan animals in the zoo at all?
