That's sad news, he's my favourite. Where is he going to?
I'm not certain, I found out via my girlfriend's aunt who was going to adopt him for us as a gift. I'm hoping to contact Twycross to get more details soon.
He's my girlfriend's absolute favourite and she was well upset when she found out the news.
According to the zoo's facebook page, he will be going to Paradise Park in Broxbourne in the next few weeks.
That makes sense as their male died earlier this year . I think the Paradise Park females were imported through RSCC .
Thanks for the clarification on that. My other half will be pleased, Broxbourne's a little closer than France.
Apologies to all for posting (partly) wrong information (either my girlfriend's aunt or Twycross admin. at fault -should have verified myself).

Should be able to do that in a couple of hours, so at least I can get to see him occasionally. Hopefully he'll become a dad.
Visited yesterday (7th August) and last sunday. Given my past propensity to criticise the place and not wanting to go over old ground I'll try and balance the positive with the negative.
The morning gibbon chorus was striking, as always, and I realised this must be one of the best sound experiences in a UK zoo.
Unlike the unholy racket made by "Tipsy and the Monkey Bunch", sub-CBBC level animal costumed entertainment, you know, "for kids". These set up for an hour right next to the aviaries behind the tropical house and created noise pollution in the name of entertainment. I never saw more than a dozen and a half children joining in and for that everyone in the vacinity had to suffer. On the bright side it's only for the duration of the summer holidays and, whilst I accept the argument for providing such "entertainment" I just wish it was in different part of the zoo (away from enclosures and perhaps nearer the mini-fairground and children's play areas).
Twycross is very obviously on a "funds push" at the moment (no problem with that if they're used well) which has noticeable manifested throughout the zoo: kiosks (some mobile) have sprouted up all over the place; expensive (but good) paintings in Himalaya for sale; the opportunity to have a Sunday lunch and look at the birds in the "New England" aviary; animal experiences for sale; leaflets encouraging annual membership (at fairly generous rates). Good luck to them and I hope they use the money raised well.....
....like to sort out the car park area once and for all (which would be attempt four, by my count, in about a dozen years). The latest "fix" doesn't seem to have worked, the "roads" in the parking areas have some severe potholes in and will surely require some work before next Spring.
Overall I felt more positive after my visit than for quite a while (though I purposely avoided the Green Mile) as it seems that finally Twycross has woken up and is doing something about the old monkey/gibbon enclosures: they've finally discovered soft substrates (bark chippings) for the floors and over the last year or so primate enclosure furniture (inside and out) has increased considerably; species are being moved around, seemingly with some rationality, and enclosures "expanded" in some areas by linking two (previously separate) "terrace" enclosures together for one species. Whilst they might only be "cheap and cheerful" (rather than significantly structural) improvements they are, at least, a move in the right direction.
I was told the Sea Lion pup is well (though off show) and the Snow Leopard cubs should be (potentially) on show on Tuesday.
There, no rants covering old ground.

wooohooo about the snow leopard cubs... must have known i was gonna visit sometime next week...lol
Just taking a look at the new Twycross guidebook and there is an area marked on the map as "Without Boundaries, Wetlands & Waterway - Planned for 2012". Sounds like a nature reserve rather than an exhibit to me (which I'm all in favour of). It's positioned alongside the car park but could be linked via a pathway from the "Pets at Twycross" corner.

OK, I should probably have finished reading the guide before posting ... taken from the back cover:

Sounds like a sensible project (though it wouldn't be top of my Twycross priority list).

The two Snow Leopard cubs were let out into the main enclosure with mum Irma today!
Thought it was too good to be true, The baby sealion has died.

Heading for the zoo tomorrow... are the cubs out everyday? is it best to go into the zoo to see them? when i last went to twycross zoo there was no snow leopard enclosure at all.
Sad news aout the sealion pup.. was looking forward to seeing him.

The Snow Leopard enclosure has one very large viewing window that you can stay in front of with out even paying to go into the zoo.As for the Sealion pup you wouldn't have seen it even if it was still alive!

Hi there...
I was VERY impressed this morning with the new entrance and snow leopard enclosure. And leaf cutter ants in the toilets!... very cool!..lol.
Never had so much luxury waiting for an animal to show itself... the coffee was delicious
