Twycross Zoo Twycross Zoo news 2013 #2

I will say this Twycross certainly attracts the characters on here, perhaps more than all the other zoos put together, and it certainly attracts a lot of lively debate and discussion, I would have thought things would have settled down since last Autumn and the departure of the leading lady, but no, not a bit of it, it would appear to be business very much as normal as far as Zoo Chat is concerned, keep up the discussion folks, whatever your opinions may be, it is definitely the most interesting zoo discussed on here, as far as I am concerned:)

I think on the UK Forums, only three Zoos engender this form of heated debate,- Twycross, South Lakes and (to an extent) Noah's Ark, though in my estimate the depth and length of Twycross debates far outweigh the other two. I guess these are somehow the most controversial zoos that we know.;)

Hi Fans

What a wonderful forum and yes I do know what I am talking about and not all my posts are digs, if you take time to read them you will see that. I have never really laid into anyone as people do about the last CEO and indeed never really let loose about the Zoo.

I would appreciate debate and indeed enjoy it, there is no need to get personal, apologies if that's talking to you (all) like a child.

The reason why I am attracting so much push back is that Twycross think they know who I am and are feeling vulnerable and guilty for their collective actions towards me.

If anyone would like to ask me a direct question regarding the Zoo I will be happy to answer it.

My last post for the weekend is: How many health checks at Twycross result in death? sea-lion, wild cats, Gorilla, Ardwolf, why instead of bemoaning the Zoo or me ask the Zoo for a list of records as is your right under the freedom of information act, the Zoo is a Charity after all. If you are that concerned?

Keep posting!

Cheers

I have read your various posts and they are way too cryptic and personal, sometimes bordering on cowardly. We all know that Twycross's management deserved some stick; but right now they are, at least from the 'outside', trying extremely hard to get back on track and need as much support, praise and encouragement as we, the zoo community, can offer. If you are privy to evidence to suggest there is a welfare issue at this zoo, or that the vet team are not being 'open' about procedures on their stock - call the appropriate people (BIAZA, DEFRA, Association of Veterinarians, the RSPCA or the Police), but please don't suggest things on this forum as that is mightily unfair to the professionals at Twycross!

I'm not aware that anyone who has replied to you works at twycross. Maybe I'm wrong...

Where in any of Integrity posts did they say that people from Twycross had responded,to their posts? They did say Twycross thought they knew who they are!Reading between the lines I suspect that Twycross are digging to find out,who they are and that is what they are suggesting! If my guess as to who Integrity is correct then they know alot more about the problems at the Zoo than the zoo would ever want getting on to here or in the public domain.

I think that is a very fair response to Integrity's recent posts, and that highlighting this issue on here doesn't really help the zoo and would be better reported to relevant authorities if there are genuine concerns.

Zoogiraffe, I read this as pertaining to the questioning Integrity has received onzoochat (not sure if I've highlighted the quote properly) if its not relating to zoochat why bring it up in relation to how people on here have responded to them.

There are too many cryptic remarks on this thread. People should either say what they know or don't mention it at all. All this 'I know something you don't know' stuff makes me feel like I'm back on playground duty.

In response to your first question,it was just me going from my gut, feeling after having re-read the posts and replies,so I could have mis-read or understood the whole thing!

As for the second part, the only thing I can say is that those members of this forum, that have never seen how a zoo is run from the inside would be shocked at just what goes on and that not just at Twycross but every zoo in this country, and the rest of the world! That and the fact many posters on here wouldn't be able to handle the truth of what is and has happened at Twycross!

we're stepping into a dangerous situation. if it is as bad as you are making it sound if the press find out could this down turn on what seems on the surface a growing period for twycross.

I couldn't agree more with what you have said,as for the first time in over 6 years I am positive about what,is happening and been done at Twycross!

I think the same could be said of any industry where the public have a clear view of what they think should be done, and how it should be done. As a teacher, I know things about schools that those working outside education might find to be surprising, or even disappointing; the same is true, I am sure, of health workers, the police, the military.... pretty much any area of life where there is that close overview. I doubt whether, say, quantity surveyors have the same issue - but then they're not working in an area that is overlooked by the general public....

As sooty says this is true of many industries, I don't doubt you (and others) knowledge of the zoo industry at all. It's not that I've taken issue with. I just think it should be either posted or not alluded to at all. This isn't just a twycross issue, but a general forum one.

I'm sorry if it came across as I was just getting at you, its a general thing that always gets my goat whenever anyone does it.

The problems surrounding Euthanasia of Zoo animals generally is a longstanding one and applicable to all Zoos to some degree or other. How they deal with it varies of course but occassionally it gets highlighted by individual incidents at one zoo oranother, that become known (or aired) publicly. There is currently a similar discussion developing on the South Lakes thread, but really this is an issue for the General Forum as you say and I suggest that is the best place for it, rather than on the UK Zoo threads.

has anyone seen the extension to the meerkat enclosure, if so how do you rate it? With the amount of people who hang round the meerkat exhibit it must be twycross' favourite exhibit.

There are some pictures on their Facebook page, dated Friday I think.

...which reminds me. They've started something else, which they were asking people to guess on Facebook does anyone know what it is?
