Update from Twycross's website that the Tropical House will be closed until further notice (no reason given)
Park Update!

Mods - can we please close the previous thread :)

Why has a new thread been added? What was wrong with Twycross Zoo 2013?

Previous one had got a bit long IMO - Average news thread gets to around 300/400 posts before being closed off. That one was over 500 and still going strong...

The roof appears to be problematic and the stench of rodent infestation is quite something. The tropical house needs a full overhaul however is this the best use of 100k at twycross? I think not for that money a large giraffe house like YWP could be erected.

Bonobo building

I hear the Bonobo will be having an improved outside area, is that the best development to be doing at Twycross? :confused:Why is Twycross the only UK zoo to keep Bonobo? What would you do with £200k at Twycross?

Dinosaur valley was ending on the 1st of September, 2nd September and the 8th of September, depending on what news story you read? My concern is that if the Zoo cannot decide on when animatronic dinosaurs will be going what chance have those animals got? Being indecisive is probably in their mission statement.........

I guess it will only be a waste if they do it and then the Bonobos are removed from the zoo by the studbook.

Why would the stud book remove bonobos from the zoo
Because they are in charge of what happens to every Bonobo in the studbook, and if they so decide that Twycross will no longer keep the species, then that is what happens! For starters they have 2 groups that cannot be mixed but only one outdoor enclosure, which isn't good for which ever group is shut inside!

They could but why? If they are improving the enclosure why would they? It would be a great shame if the bonobos left.

I suggest we all wait and see just what happens with the Bonobos, but lets just say the studbook holder has a few things that they want sorting out with how Twycross keep the Bonobo's,and of they aren't sorted out the chances are they will be removed.

I am really surprised that nowhere else in the UK has sought to get Bonobos. London has never kept the species in its history.

As a complete guess, I would suspect that most places would not want to keep bonobos if they already keep chimps, as they would look very similar and require separate housing, and the general public would not have a clue they were something special.

A shame, I feel. Give me a bonobo any day.

Bonobos are so active and much more attractive than chimps (IMO). When I visit Twycross I just sit by the window and marvel at them. Last time was very interesting when the chimp keeper came into the bonobo house, and said he preferred bonobos! He said they were alot more mysterious.:)

Agree, I heard a visitor remark once that these chimps don't get as much food as the others as they are very thin.
