EXCITING ANNOUCEMENT – NEW AMUR LEOPARD CUBS BORN AT TWYCROSS!
We are delighted to announce the birth of not one, but two Amur leopards - the world’s rarest big cat.
At around 8am on Monday 2nd June, our two year old female leopard Kristen gave birth to the two cubs which are yet to be sexed.
This is the first set of cubs for Kristen, and seven year old male Davidoff who himself was born here at Twycross in 2006.
The cubs first began emerging from their cubbing den early last week and have been seen happily playing with each other and mum in their outdoor enclosure.
Experts estimate that the number of Amur leopards in the wild consists of less than 50 individuals, meaning that the arrival of our two cubs represents a significant step forward in ensuring the survival of the Amur leopard - a species on the brink of extinction in the wild.

Does anyone know if they still have any of the Bird species that were held with in the Longhorn exhibit (I think that's what it was called) they used to have Cattle egret, Plum faced parakeet, Purple heron and many more in this exhibit are they still on show in other enclosures or have they left the collection now

Do you mean the Longhouse? This was the Borneo-themed exhibit for non-Bornean birds, which in recent years has collapsed.
A longhorn is, as far as I know, a type of cattle from Texas.

Correct I knew I'd get it wrong but any info would be great please on the bird species from within the exhibit.
A very nice species all things considered; it is a shame the Purple Heron is long gone though.
Extremely tame as well, in Twycross' case. I got lots of photos of one who just perched on the boardwalk rail when I visited the 'Borneo' Longhouse.

Members of Zoo Chat may be interested to hear that on Tuesday, August 19th, Orang Day, all read heads will be admitted into the zoo completely free of charge. Also on Saturday August 23rd and Sunday 24th August visitors will be admitted into the zoo at a 25% discount if they turn up in a Sci Fi related fancy dress costume, during the zoo's Sci Fi weekend.

Why not on my last visit to Twycross they had a Classic Car event,if it hadn't been for the people exhibiting their cars the place would have been very empty!

How authentic do the red heads have to be? Does dyed hair count? What if the roots are showing? Will a wig or hairpiece suffice? Will they be checking "cuff and collar match" to ensure entrants are true redheads?

, seriously, you use the word "desperate", a very negative word but I strongly suspect you are correct in using it most unfortunately, it is the main Summer season, the time to make hay while the sun shines, and it has been shining in the UK this Summer I am pleased to say. Yet this zoo are going to let people in free on one of these days and later, at Bank Holiday weekend allow a 25% discount if you turn up dressed like someone from Star Wars, which has nothing to do with zoology whatsoever. I always enjoy looking at the photos that Mr, Zoo giraffe takes the trouble to post from this zoo, I see the lorikeet exhibit is under construction and would have been a new attraction for this Summer season, however it is not yet built, the train is still out of service and I wish I had a pound for every time I have read the word disappointed in recent trip advisor reviews, not good.And what about skin heads turning up claiming to be red heads when their hair grows
I wonder if you can name me any zoos that have no discounts at all this summer?
