Visited today and did walk though the Longhouse with the following species still in the building only on the left as the right as nothing in it

Species were -

Cattle Egret
Pied Imperial Pigeon
Little Egret
Pied Cormorant
Demoiselle Crane
Glossy Ibis

Has anyone got anymore information on this? My brother was there at the weekend and asked where the giraffes had gone (he's not that much of a zoo fan as you can tell) and a keeper mentioned there was going to be a new giraffe exhibit but all that they could say was that it's going to be built for 2015.

I haven't been to Twycross in a few years. I'm a long-time Chester crony but I'd be interested to know whether they'll be breeding and what species they're having? I know Twycross don't have giraffes - can someone tell me when they left?

Hmm...after reading this and knowing I was visiting Twycross (I went yesterday) I took it upon myself to have a nosey around. There there was noticeable changes to the old Kuno area. I wonder if Kuno has finally got the go ahead? I am intrigued...can someone find out more?

Kuno is dead and buried to the point that they never even applied for planning permission to start building it!

After my visit on Tuesday I spoke to a dear friend from Twycross (ex-staff) who did confirm that an announcement had been made, and planning permission has been sought to build a giraffe house, to house five Rothschild's. I can't however imagine that planning permission will be granted before 2015!! Very exciting times for Twycross and a good reason to renew my membership

Not naming names..... but I wonder if people realise that the moderators can see IP addresses and thus can tell when two users claiming to be from entirely different locations have identical IP addresses and start talking to one another?

I belong to a bird forum site and so does my niece who as a different user name but does use my computer from time to time and I will use hers from time to time does this mean she is me or is it I am her(lol) just wondering

You don't. The only members who get signatures are site supporters (so people who have donated something towards the sites up keep) or moderators

Hello A Fish/Integrity/Newbold/AnimalFriendly/Fuzzy Ferret, yes you are correct, the rumours you heard are true, a new state of the art giraffe house which will also house Okapi. Also, later giant pandas will be arriving, they will live in one of the chimp houses when their new £3,000000 house is built, all this is possible after the very prudent, professional way in which this zoo was directed by the management who succeeded Miss Badham and Miss Evans, well done, this is how this zoo is now literally rolling in money.

To house 5 Roth's that would be very nice,but somehow I think all you are trying to do is drum up some nice positive PR for the place,but then that is your day job so good luck!As some of us remember and know the real reasons for going out of Giraffes in the first place,and how pissed off some people within the zoo and zoo world were with how its was done!!!

They are; but the policy is to only enforce this rule if both accounts are active and in use. Having warned the user in question, if they continue use of both accounts they may well be banned - but if they cease to use one account the other account may be allowed to remain.

The true reason why the Giraffes left the collection was never made public,so I will keep it out of the public domain.

Well if you read the Superb What Zoo's Can Do by Antony Sheriden if look hard enough there is a reference to Twycross getting Okapi in that book,if he hadn't believed every word that he was told by the then Director,and done a little independent research he would have been able to disprove that in about the same 30 minutes it took me to do just that!!!
