JC a few years ago as you looked from the Gents Toilet they had a small waterfowl avairy just outside and you can still see the roof netting today as you enter the zoo on the left had side

Just moving over from the marwell tread a bit of chat about the lego displays at twycross and sone to be marwell was wondering if any body else has seen them and there opinion. I personally think they are an interesting addition and discreet in the zoo whist adding to a visits appeal with out distracting from the collection. Unlike some other collection like black pools dinosaurs which must have cost a fortune and takes up so much space in the grounds for fiberglass and plastic. Plus they are only there for the winter and will probably help the zoos admittance through the cold months, does any body know what the deal is with these traveling exhibits, does the zoo pay have them or are they on gate / merchandise commissions.
Ok thanks I think we got to the bottom of this as they now use this area as a walk through to a function room I think someone said they attended a wedding here, wonder if you go to a function there though if you can see also in to the gents from the outside .
Twycross have posted an artical in there news section on collecting blood from there former elephant calf esha to test for the herpesvirus before here move with pictures of the process

Had a visit to Twycross yesterday. Few things of note:
1. There was a baby Francois langur bounding around.
2. Atlas moths in the butterfly forest
3. The chimps had no access to their outside enclosure, there were a coupe of diggers in there, not sure what they are doing.
4. No sign of any work starting on the tiger enclosure.

A planning application has gone in for Nyala stables in the area of wasteland at the end of the Giraffe paddock. They are to share the Giraffe paddock. I assume this is a precursor to them starting the Tigers, as the Nyala are currently still in the old Camel paddock, I believe.
That's great news for twycross a mixed exhibit would be a good move forward and perhaps encouraged there giraffes out to the paddock, along with reopening of the path to the giraffe raised viewing area around the elephant paddock. On a footnote looking at the planning app page 6 of the drawings shows the former elephant enclosure being marked for rhino, again awesome but if you look closely the water area is only earmarked as concrete ramp with no mention of water would this then dismiss the notion of Asian species

Popped in today to find lots of work underway:
- monkey house closed and the walkway between it and where the crowned lemurs etc are is blocked off
- orang entrance from meerkats blocked off
- large area around otters, the hyena's old enclosure, the nyala and play area fenced off
- path around elephant enclosure blocked off, so giraffe only accessible at the house viewing point

Yes indeedIsn't that where the tigers are going? If so, exciting times!
The monkey house has been closed of for the last few months don't know why, or what is going on at the orang house. The path way around the elephant enclosure has been shut since the last elephants left don't think there is much going on there at the min and is shut to just prevent public access and cut amount of cleaning up after public, bins ect as the path way doesn't have much purpose with out the elephants.
If it's the same monkey I am thinking of, first on your left as you pass through the gates just before the orang also on the left and the meerkats / leopards on the right then yes the interior house tunnel if you like is closed you can still see the monkeys if they are outside. A first I thought it was closed for breeding ect as there is no of show but it has been closed for a few months now so unsure of the reasoning.
