The two elephants left will leave in the autumn 2018 when the weather is better (more amenable and not so hot).

BTW: Any indication when the tiger building project is due to start?
(I know it is close on the chimp redevelopment, but ... it was announced like sometime ago already)

Tiger building work has to start soon. A male Sumatran Tiger is due to arrive next Spring

I am amazed at the pace of development at this zoo. Giraffes, gibbons, chimps, tigers and asian rhinos all in the last few years/coming years. From what I have seen the exhibits may be highly functional (nothing wrong with that, its just much different than American zoos) yet their commitment to animal welfare is defiantly to be commended.
 
I would of thought White rhinos would be the most common for a new holder, possibly a new bachelor pad like Edinburgh have for Indian rhinos although I could be wrong

I suppose it's just the theming & water of the current enclosure that makes Indian Rhino so obvious, but an indoor pool would surely be needed too?

I just want to point out that this isn't as true as it used to be. In recent years YWP and Folly Farm have gone into blacks whilst only Manor Park have gone into whites. The new black rhino holders are part of the EEP whilst MWP imported theirs from Africa. Makes me think that blacks are more in need of holders... ;)

But to be honest Indian rhino match the theming and enclosure are much better suited.You could maybe even throw in some axis/swamp/brow-antlered deer as the enclosures are big enough. That's what I would do anyway. :)
 
Manor Wildlife Park didn't import White Rhino's from Africa. Importing from Africa was plan A but later deemed too expensive. They instead received three juvenile males from Colchester, Dublin and GaiaZoo.

Although the male from GaiaZoo was bred somewhere else (Munster?) and hadn't fitted into the existing male group at Kerkrade. Hence the second transfer

My bad, I remember ARR saying they were going direct to Africa on the TV show but didn't realise they'd given up on that idea. I remember the quoted price was 3,500 pound per rhino, and that was before transport costs, so I can see why that fell through... ;)
 
If the aim to house Rhino has fallen through, for whatever reason, which appears to be cryptically alluded to a few posts above, I suspect the zoo will have a plan B very soon.

Nobody can deny, no matter how flawed the zoo's history may be, or how cynical you are, that Twycross have stayed true to their development plans over the last 5 years.
