Twycross Zoo Twycross Zoo News 2022

This would make sense as Lope will have to be separated soon.

Yes maybe Lope will be moving in with another young male. I don't think they'll move all of the gorillas yet as there's quite a list of things they said would be done before the gorillas, though plans may have changed since then.

I’m sure plans have been mixed up seeing as the science center was going to be last on the list but the gorillas want far of where they are now only the rhino phase two is due to be payed for, before them and if they have the money it would make sense as in there original plan to do them before or along with the orangutans, science center or they would end up with a sizeable building site in between the orangutans and chimps in the future. The only thing would be if they where intending to use the orangutans current house to house gorillas till there new house is built as they where suppose to have orangutans phase one done before, have put there plan on this link to help refresh minds https://twycrosszoo.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/tz-vision-2020-brochure-online.pdf

Dr Sharon Redrobe is stepping down as CEO. I am really sorry to hear it. I thought she was fab.

Hey I’m back!
today I saw two Jamaican Boas in a container looking like they are about to go on exhibit.

The Map has changed to a easier one to understand.

This map shows the L’hoest monkeys have moved next to the tigers in the old chimpanzee enclosure but when I looked over I saw the monkeys in the old bonobo enclosure unless they are in the move.

Quick visit today as it was very hot we like to see certain animals more in the afternoon and timed it well the female tiger was on the glass roof so was nice to see her outside the l’hoest monkeys were in the old bonobo enclosure and it was lovely to see oumbi the silverback with his 2 sons outside together best highlight was 2 tiny emperor tamarins on their mums back didn’t know they had babies they are tiny lol

Feels a bit odd, given they are about to deliver the NSCC, Orangs and SUPPOSEDLY the rest of the ape habitats over this decade. Thought those projects were what she had been working for and would be her legacy. That combined with a slightly lukewarm thank you letter and an open letter of reassurance to the staff makes it feel like there is more to this.

I kind of agree with this statement. I picked up on all the things you noticed also....;)

Its interesting that these posts on Facebook elicited just a single response. If it had been e.g. a gorilla's birthday party, I'm sure there would have been dozens. It seems changes in management of their zoo is of little interest to Twycross supporters.
The same is probably true of most zoos’ social media.

Yeah, I kind felt something was missing from this. I think in terms of legacy, you could easily argue that the huge turnaround in the zoo is pretty impressive in itself, even if she isn’t seeing out the full 15-20 year plan herself.

Considering the zoos continued success, and Sharon being quite widely respected, if there is more to this I can only imagine it’s totally unrelated to the zoo or it’s future direction. Most likely are some significant changes her personal circumstances or she’s been poached by another zoo/conservation organisation. Which may not get announced for a while depending on what kind of garden leave policies they had in place.

I’m beginning to wonder if she has been poached given her record at Twycross turning it completely round and getting the 20 million out of the government would make her a large target for a zoo. I was wondering mabey Bristol given her past connections there and there redeveloping plans would suit her skills
