I also heard that, and somthing about adding some reed beds.

Well it certainly needs it in that part of the zoo,while they are doing the drainage i believe they are also making the Tapir paddock bigger at the same time,i think the reed beds are part of what has already been done unless its a second one up by the Elephants that has been talked about.
I work at Twycross as a volunteer.
Isis list is right - 1.0. We lost Khari (our female Lioness) just before Christmas. She was the worlds oldest Asiatic breeding Lioness. So now Kamal is on his own but he maybe sent to another collection. This will make us not have Lions now until the new enclosure is complete.

Hari, the last Twycross Tiger left a few years ago, I can't remember the exact year. I think he went to Australia. He was a Tiger who liked spending time on his own.

Yes James - Hari came to Australia to the then Mareeba Wild Animal Park but is now visiting Perth Zoo. What he carries under his tail is very valuable in this region!
You are right that he is a bit of a loner but he is the friendliest Sumatran towards humans that I have ever met. Despite his very obvious physical defects he is a lovely boy.

Sumatrans are often far less friendly than e.g. Siberians. What are his physical defects? Presumably they're not genetic or he wouldn't be used for breeding?
seems like a good solution- unless they are already related.. Twycross would have no problem in getting a fresh pair when they are ready- Asian lions are everywhere!

Yes, I believe it was, as the Leopards are where the old Tiger enclosure used to be.
That's a shame about the Asiatic Lioness, although it sounds like she had a good long life - whilst I myself would not be too bothered if Twycross had no lions, I wonder if a lot of visitors might. Big cats are still a huge draw for punters, and for some reason leopards just don't seem to have that 'wow' factor that lions and tigers do! As long as the Snow Leopard plan comes off I'm happy, but I wonder what could go in the present lion enclosure?
the asiatic lion studbook is held at twycross so i doubt they'd evr go out of them. I had heard a new set of enclosure for lions, dhole and otter will be built with eed beds near the elephant paddock! also that the amur leopards would most likely move to the lion enclosure! twycross also are getting rusty spotted cats soon!
Twycross will keep Asiatic Lions for many years to come yet. I have heard nothing on moving the Amur Leopards to another enclosure, or the zoo getting Rusty Spotted Cats.
