A friend am going with has a distant contact with one of the keepers (not sure what section/animals) so I may be able to attain some more information
I imagine those chimpanzee 'cages' will carry on being used well into the future. Its ironic that Twycross are building other new exhibits while still allowing a major eyesore like that in the zoo. It wouldn't take an awful lot of money or time to renovate that whole area- it could be done during the winter months with the chimps confined inside... the ugly row of outdoor cages could be replaced by a single bay-shaped or rectangular enclosure, perhaps with glass windows/wall and grassed over with rocks, logs and some decent climbing equipment. I'm sure those old chimps could easily be kept in one single group and the location is fine as its a suntrap with the back wall which could remain. The indoor areas could stay the same as now so they could still seperate off the individuals/pairs at night.
regarding the newer Gorilla enclosure. It could be planted up very easily- there are only two adults and one younger gorilla in the enclosure at present and I have hardly ever seen them outside but more vegetation might make it more interesting for them to use.
Pertinax, as I said a couple of posts up, The slide doors between some of the rows have been opened up, therefore creating larger areas and from memory, some chimps were in small groups. Although opening them up completely, as you suggest, would be a much better idea.
Yes, I'm always after the perfect solution and with no half -measures. But at least that is an improvement. I do think the current management have been very slow in making any sweeping changes though(not just with the old chimps, but generally)

Not for the for seeable future unless something happens that i`m not aware of,because i was told they would bring one in when the new enclosure is done.
No doubt because of fear of complaints from the public if no lions on show...

I didn't get chance to ask anyone, but my friend ask his who's a keeper on the elephant section. She doesn't know whether there is any plans to bring a new breeding male.
There was no signs of the new entrance facilities (but then on bank holiday am not surprised if they had tidyed up).
The new bornean walk thru exhibit is fantastic really nicely themed. Saw a scottich wildcat, there exhibit compliments there secerative nature.
I think i read somewhere that two leopards have left, but on my visit there was definitly two leopards there! Both males as far as i could tell, with one smaller than the other (I believe one of the litter).
I think that was all (only ended up spending a two hours there and wanted to show my mate around, so didn't get chance to ask any questions)
From memory, I think the hand-raised ones were Lar and White-Cheeked gibbons...
(were you referring to the enclosures opposite the cafe, right by the entrance?)

Yes that is were i was refering too, plus there was Lar (I think) gibbon baby with mum.
Also another question that has sprung to mind, and I don't believe it has been covered but does anyone know where they got there Francois' Langur's from?
I have been to Twycross today and having spoken with a keeper or two have learnt that (1) It is confirmed that no male lion will be joining the lionesses until the new enclosure is completed "in a couple of years or so" and (2) that ONE Amur Leopard cub was moved to an Italian collection (Kyle?) leaving Diesel and the other cub who rotate the outside enclosure (one daytime and one night). They are concentrating in looking for a female for the cub, rather than the father but nothing is in the pipeline right now. On the elephant front, Norjahans pregnancy appears to be going Ok - no progress has been made in giving Mimbu AI treatment. The north end of the outside of the elephant enclosure appears to have been planted up and looks good but the area behind it (where the Asian exhibit is planned) still like a building site. No evidence yet of any start to the building of the entrance complex. On the 'new arrival' front, there were 5 baby capybara and a pretty new pudu fawn. There are two new adult parrots in the Lemur complex?.

I gather by your post there was not anything new or anything that has not already been mentioned here?
I don't think anything major was on there that hasn't been covered on here (male lion leaving & two females arriving, for example).
