Twycross Zoo Twycross zoo

If only people know what really goes on in zoos. Like last year a lot of people were upset that Twycross never had a silverback so they blame the zoo. If people worked in a zoo there are things called studbooks that control animal movements. No one blamed them!

No one blamed the studbook keepers because nobody knew this is where the delay came from. If this had been flagged previously, critisism of the Zoo over this would have ceased straight away. So its time to set the record straight here perhaps. The very long delay before a new Silverback male replaced Sekondi was due to Studbook procedures, not the Zoo.

Im loving how a post about a saki monkey birth has trighgered a response to a statement 4 months ago lol. Saki Birth!

The Saki Monkey birth is very welcome too but you'll notice there's been a lot of other discussion topics on this thread and I was actually responding to something I saw which had been posted previously.

Not sure if it has been mentioned in any of the Twycross threads yet but there is a pair (well, two anyway) of Striped Hyaenas now in residence. They are in the Lion enclosure and one of them looks not quite mature yet.

No I used to love twycross used to go round seeing all the animals from a tv show (some of which are still there). But I really hope (as others have said) that major improvements happen soon in regards to most of their ape and monkey enclosures.

I just feel that for a zoo that specilises in primates twycross should be doing better!! But they do seem to be breeding them well I'm very pleased to hear they've just bred a saki monkey for the first time in 15 years.:)

I'm sure things will get better, I do slightly regret calling it a joke in my previous post.

There's some photos I took of them a couple of weeks back in the Gallery. They were imported from Sharjah so are the Arabian form, H. h. sultana.

And very welcome additions they are too.

I saw their back ends last weekend! They were snoozing under a tree, so couldn't get good pics. Will try again tomorrow - I had never seen hyenas of any species so I was really excited and a bit gutted not to get a clear pic, but that's animal photography you :)
