UK Collections By Public Transport: A Guide

I am not accusing them, I merely asking a valid question over access by public transport and the failure by local Govt. and the national administration to deal with this very public issue.

Other: I do invariably think a zoo has a role to play as a major driving force for the much needed policy transition to sustainability and reducing the in-roads made by ever expanding mobility and numbers of cars and CO-2 and other exhaust entering our atmosphere.

Govt./Administration: The administrative issue here is the lack of perception or political will to reverse the large scale reductions in access to public transport or their operation by not providing sufficient funding or complete indifference by the Powers that be (invariably chosen by a sometimes hapless lot that make decisions not always in their own interests).

Next time try to relax before you write something, as you might come over as a little too aggressive and I do not know your body language here, but ... I am sure you would not dare say that in this way to my face ...! Show a little more respect on social media, thank you for your understanding.

You were indeed accusing them - just re-read your email. I quoted your comment in inverted commas in my post.

Whatever the situation of public transport provision in your home city might be, the position of rural zoos in Britain is probably quite different, but I suppose that you may not be well informed about this either. I can tell you that rural Britain generally has no public transport, serving zoos and/or any other businesses.

I do not agree that zoos have a role to play as a 'major driving force in policy changes'. It might be different in Amsterdam, but again I can assure you that the opinion of most rural zoos has no impact whatever on such policy and is not a major driving force.

My post was carefully worded and certainly no more aggressive than your own up-thread. Some people do in fact have opinions different to your own, and I think you are wrong in this respect. I certainly would have expressed mine in exactly the same way where-ever we had met.

Sewerby Zoo (Sewerby Hall & Gardens), Bridlington
The number 14 bus to/from Flamborough stops directly outside the estate in both directions. It runs hourly. There are also open-top buses in summer. There are also land trains along the cliff top that start on the seafront in Bridlington near the leisure centre - these run from around Easter to the end of the October half-term holiday.

Filey Bird Garden & Animal Park
Number 12 and number 13 buses between Bridlington and Scarborough stop directly outside the park in both directions. There are generally two buses an hour albeit not exactly half an hour apart as the 13 serves the local holiday parks meaning its journey times are longer. If the park continues to open in February half-term and then weekends until the main season as it did this year then for the first few weeks there would be only the 12 bus as the 13 is seasonal (I think it runs to early November, so until the end of the park's season). Filey Railway Station is about a mile from the park, there are hourly trains in both directions.

Anyone managed to do Wingham and Wildwood on the same day by public transport? Google is giving me the impression it's quite doable, but Google Maps is known to lie...

Marwell
Marwell has unexpectedly stopped, as from last Sunday, the bus service from Eastleigh to and from the Zoo that had been pre-publicised to run throughout all the school holidays this year and every Saturday and Sunday from April through to August.. If you had planned to use this bus, or used the service in the past, do contact Marwell. The only direct bus now is the no.69 from Winchester on Sunday's.

Oh no, had thought about taking that bus last Saturday but then something else came up, the Sunday bus from Winchester is sadly not workable for me as there are no trains to get there early enough, so it looks like I won’t get to see this collection

For what it’s worth, I walked there from Shawford station and arrived before opening time so it’s still doable.

That’s great to hear! How chill is the walk? Looked a bit scary on street view
The majority of the walk is on pavement. The final stretch is without pavement but there's a large grass verge to walk on for the bigger/faster road, so I didn't have any issues.

If you don't like walking on roads, I think there are possibly some bridleways in the area you can use to avoid the stretch without pavement, although that would obviously make the walk longer.
