UK Collections By Public Transport: A Guide

If arriving by train get off at Tamworth (high level rail station) then walk around 10 minutes to town centre then get bus765 towards Atherstone getting off at the bus station then take bus 7 to Tywcross getting off at the park and ride area it's a 20 minute walk from here hope this helps.

If there are any other ways I would like to hear from you as this takes time to get there (about an hour from Tamworth rail station).

That sounds easier than walking there from Tamworth as I did twice in 1996 (the last times I visited - and only the second and third in total, 1973 being the other one).

And this is the reason why I've never visited Twycross by public transport, I'd rather go to Chester which is far more accessible on a train. ;)

Also, it's a far better zoo! :p
 
HAGLEY FALCONRY CENTRE -

From Birmingham both train stations New Street and Snow Hill serve well for this trip but Snow hill is directly on the same street as the bus stops about to be mentioned New Street is approx 10 mins walk away

From Snow Hill -

When leaving the station turn right on to Colmore Rd then just about 100 yards up you can get either the number 9 or 141 from stand SH2 (9 to Stourbridge & 141 to Merry Hill) both of these stop at Halesowen Bus Station the number 9 runs every 10 minutes Monday - Saturday and every 30 Minutes on Sunday's the 141 runs every 30 minutes 7 days a week

from Halesowen Bus Station we take the number 192 (Diamond bus company) Stand number 3 these run every hour at 10 minutes past this will drop you off at Webbs Garden Centre.

Off the bus and turn right walk across the car park for Webbs and into the main garden centre and you will find the Falconry Centre at the rear.

From New Street -

Out of the Station turn right and keep following the road take the 3rd turning on the left this will lead you to the church on Colmore Road walk through the grounds (about 50 yards) and onto the main Colmore Road the stop you are looking for is just to your right (first stop) then follow the directions above.

The 192 is a Whittle coach, not a Diamond and not compatible with a Nbus ticket, which you can use on Diamond, National Express and Hanson's Local.

Bloody expensive too. Over 6 pounds for a daysaver!
 
The 192 is now a diamond bus as Whittles Buses have gone to the wall and it is £2.20 each way from Halesowen to webbs garden centre - Hagley west

Diamond started the service today and were running a little behind service times as it was there first day.

Unfortunately you still can't use a N-Bus ticket or any other day saver ticker as they cross the county line.
 
Chessington World of Adventures (Winter Zoo Days)

The park is a ten minute walk from Chessington South railway station, which is on the direct South West Trains line from London Waterloo. The station is part of the London Oyster card network, in Zone 6. I came in via a slightly different route (Farringdon->Wimbledon->Chessington South) which cost about £4 each way on the Oyster card (Saturday fares)

from the station, turn right across the bridge, and walk down to the main road, the turn left. Walk along the main road, cross over at the park entrance, then continue walking along the edge of the car park where it has pedestrianised 'zebra crossing' markers. This will take you up to the main entrance, which opens directly into the zoo.
 
You can get to Scarborough sea life and Flamingo land via public transport:

Scarborough Sealife, get the train to Scarborough, then get the steam train along the sea front.

Flamingo Land, get the train to York (Or Leeds, but a lot further by bus) and then get the Coastliner bus directly to Flamingo Land.

I'd always recommend getting the train to Malton as the bus journey is a lot shorter still. The bus station is just over the road from the railway station.

For some reason the station at Malton does not seem to get a mention on the park's leaflets but York's does. From Monday to Saturday the covenient morning trains from York arrive at 9.03 and 10.03; there are buses at 9.17 and 10.21 Mondays to Fridays, and 9.11 and 10.21 on Saturdays. The trains from Scarborough are due in at 9.12 (no good on a Saturday) and 10.12. There is more connecting time returning from Kirby Misperton in the afternoon, but there are additional buses in the main season.

It is strange, especially considering that the collection was listed on ISIS and in the Zoo Yearbook as Malton.
 
BIRDLAND PARK & GARDENS -

Train to Moreton in marsh from Birmingham New Street change @ Foregate Street (Worcester) then get train to Moreton in Marsh ( First Great Western service from Hereford to London Paddington).

When leaving the station at Moreton In Marsh the coach/bus stop is to the left of the station still on the car park (Pullmans service 801).

Please be aware this service runs every hour at ten minutes past the hour.

Get off the bus/coach in the high street by newsagents (Bourton on the Water) and after leaving the bus turn to your left and just follow the road to the Birdland Park & Garden entrance it will be on your right hand side just after the model village

Agreed - I just did this walk a few days ago. Leaving RSCC, walk north on Deal Road. It will end by running into Dover Road, which you will continue walking north on for a short ways. After you walk over the railroad tracks, take the first right (St Georges) and keep bearing right on small side street (Delfside) to the station. (Note it is a residential area and there is no clear indication you are near a train station until you get right up to it). Total is about a mile I think.

I was staying that night in Sandwich, so actually walked farther than this to my hotel. The Bell Hotel on the quay is a very charming old hotel - lots of character. Along the way (just north of train station), the houses on the right have a small creek between sidewalk and yards. Be sure to watch for the whimsical garden sign saying "Do not feed the walrus."

Yorkshire Wildlife Park

Having been a student at YWP before Doncaster College moved from the site, I know YWP is not necessarily the easiest park to get too, having two different entrances: one for cars & coaches and one for public transport pedestrians only, that used be the main entrance for everyone visiting the site before YWP existed.

A 91 First South Yorkshire bus from Doncaster Interchange stand A1, (every half an hour Monday to Saturday, every hour on Sundays) will get you there in about 30 minutes.

You need too get off just before the Post Office in the village of Branton, and walk down to the Post Office. Directly across the road is a lane signposted as YWP's pedestrian entrance. You have to walk about half a mile down what soon turns from a road into a track... Halfway down which you will greeted by a gate, and a kissing gate for pedestrians. Keep on walking and you will pass behind the Safari Cafe on your left and arrive at the Safari Store and the Safari Village also on your left which you have to pass through in order to gain entry to YWP's main gates.

Interestingly you can now also buy YWP entry tickets on any First South Yorkshire bus and save on the cost of the bus ticket;

Paradise Wildlife Park

The nearest station to PWP is Broxbourne railway station which is on the direct line out from London Liverpool Street. Broxbourne railway station is part of the Oyster card network.

The zoo is around a 45-50 minute walk from the station, but PWP provide a handy pick-up service. The number is on a board at Broxbourne station, and the minibus should take around 10 minutes to arrive, and you should be at the park in another 10 minutes. The return fare is £3 for adults (the driver will give you a ticket); note though that the bus only takes cash, if you need cash the nearest ATM is in Broxbourne highstreet around a 10 minute walk away (walk to the end of the station carpark, turn right onto the main road, carry on past the park on the left to the main junction, turn right again, walk through the arcade shopping area, and along the highstreet nearly to the end, can’t remember the exact shop, might have been a Post Office, but it had an ATM in the window)
