ZSL Whipsnade Zoo UK zookeepers successfully hand-rear baby rhino

I guess she would not have survived this traumatic (breech) delivery if she'd been born in the wild.

I think its a good very thing they were able to get her feeding from her mother though as handraised rhinos can be problematic later on if not properly socialised when young- e.g. Black female 'Rosie' at Chester who was handraised at ZSL and as an adult will not accept males.

In this case medical intervention was required for a very valuable calf. Thankfully, the reason that instigated this was not a rejection by the mother, but merely the critical condition of the calf in question. She has now been re-united with her mother and - as I understand it - she is suckling from her.
