There's a lot on there that you don't stand a cat in hell's chance of seeing in Europe (let alone the UK). Some of those species, perhaps a odd rescue centre aside, aren't held anywhere in captivity.

Rather than me going through the list I'd suggest you check out the mighty zootierliste for further clarification.

More than half of these aren't kept anywhere in the UK- I suggest checking zootierliste, which despite it's flaws, is still usually fairly accurate.

I did similar with Threatened Mammals, listing them in an Excel sheet and heading the columns with zoos/parks. Using zootierliste, I was able to identify where I could find most of my missing mammals in fewer trips. But as already said, a LOT of those you list are not in UK

One small question about that Zootierliste website, I can't even find a Black Leopard species on there, so any help on that would be appreciated.

If you are going down to the south west at some point, you could pop into Exmoor Zoo and see their pair. Lincolnshire Wildlife Park has one and there might be a couple more elsewhere in the UK.

That's because the black leopard is just a colour mutation, not a separate subspecies. look for references to 'Schwarze Panther' on the descriptions of each collection.

I was also going to suggest Exmoor Zoo - you'll see a number of the species on your list there, and it's a delightful zoo.

I’ve had Whipsnade on my list for a couple years now - I spent some time with one of the bear keepers from the zoo when we were both at Phnom Tamao in Cambodia, and up until December just gone I had never actually had the chance to see a sloth bear before.

Thanks for the above, but this is where Zootierliste has confused me.

I went to Woodside only 2 months ago and there is no Caracal, and I emailed the parks owner tonight who also confirmed that they have Geofrey's Cat, Lynx and Tiger's but no Caracal.

Also Wingham have no info of a Green Mambo on their website?

Unless offshow Bassenthwaite do not have Snapping Turtles.

This is my worry, above is only 3 instances of Zootierliste stating something is in a collection when it may not be onshow and I don't want to travel 100s of miles to find out if it's offshow, which is why I mainly asked on here.

Thanks for the info you have provided though, I appreciate the time it must have taken.

Zootierliste tends to be good, if not perfect, for mammals -less so for birds and herps. Whether this is down to poorer identification/reporting by users for non-mammals, longer lives/less variation in mammals held by collections or something else is up for debate. The more geographically obscure/less visited collections are more likely to contain errors but this is not necessarily true if there's a local user passionate about a collection.

If you're only visiting a collection for one species probably best to cross check with website and zoo themselves first. That said, in my opinion, most zoos are worth a visit (travel distance/costs considered) and there's always the chance a place has got a gem not showing on zootierliste -I visited Newquay Zoo last year and to my delight came across an achouchi not then lisited.

I would select a few zoos that you really fancy visiting based upon these species and then email the zoos directly one by one for confirmation before you go - I recently emailed every zoo noted on Zootierliste as having sun bears as well as a couple of others that I suspected may have them to double check before booking any flights and hotels, and I received pretty decent responses from all.
