UK zoos & lockdown going forward...

There is a furlough cut-off date for new applications. Quite soon, I think - so maybe it was now or never..? They have to keep them furloughed for 3 weeks minimum. With changes, the scheme has been extended into October, so clearly the Government does not expect it to be over until at least then.
Yes, last day for furloughing was today. So if it hasn’t happened yet, it can’t happen at all...

Chester Zoo

Chester's post confirming the news - with nearly 8000 shares in 5 minutes..!

The answer was what I would have expected. The Japanese have a very strong sense of "face"; they are very keen not to be seen to be forced to step down from a position; it has to look as though it was of their own volition. I think we are seeing that here. (Not that Hancock is Japanese!)

We might want the Government to admit "we have got this wrong; we will reverse the policy immediately". They won't. But I sense things are moving the right way.

Isn't there a saying that "you catch more wasps with honey than with vinegar" ?

Occasionally, even I get things right. ;)

Though, as ever, the devil is in the detail and I think some places may face more difficulties than e.g. Chester.

Yes, I agree absolutely. Presumably aquariums and collections that are mostly inside (Crocodiles of the World etc) are still to remain closed, sadly?

Maybe I am being cynical, but I wonder whether this move by the government is purely motivated by their desperation to avoid the funding issue! For some smaller zoos it may be less cost effective to actually be open with some of the restrictions that will be in place and the cost involved! Now they are allowed to open the government has washed their hands of any financial responsibility going forward.....
Doesn't mean I'm not pleased by the news though!

And of course the other question-if you’re lucky to live near many...which one do you visit first? ;)
Whichever one you are lucky enough to get a ticket for! I tried to buy a Hamerton annual pass last month but either the website or my phone failed, today I tried again before the latest news, but the website was in test mode. The dingo and wombat youngsters will be fully grown by the time I get there
