Its the first surviving cub but its not reached 30 days yet and everything is looking better than last years which died less than 2 days old!

So its not quite the first 'ever' if one was born last year...
Well it’s at least currently the only surviving one, the same can be said when the specticaled bear cub was born last year. It wasn’t the first exactly the pair had a cub that didn’t survive.
I'm not sure that matters really - it is currently the first ever surviving cub and it is great news.
I'm afraid Chester's publicity people have more enthusiasm than knowledge (to put it diplomatically).

That's precisely what I mean. I think that Tim may indeed have said those words, but I expect that he said rather more than that and his statement has been rearranged and edited by the PR people. Once this sort of thing has been sent out it is too late to put things right.
They have not kept the previous cubs death a secret - I don't think there is an 'intentional' lie about it at all. Possibly the curator of mammels is just excited about the good news and didn't want to sully the announcement by talking about the previous situation which must have been horrible for all involved. Either way - Milli & Toni / Chester are still the holders of the UK's first breeding so in that sense - it doesn't matter.
Doesn't matter if it was 'intentional' or not. Its wrong information and a number of people here agree with me it shouldn't happen, whoever was responsible for it. They should be accurate about their facts and I don't like to see this sort of thing coming from a well-reknowned (or any) zoo. It shows they have the potential to fudge other announcements too.

The little female cub had several minor tumbles as she tried to keep up with mum, Milli.
Zoo visitors were treated as the chunky youngster left her den and was seen exploring her heated indoor habitat, before the sleepy-eyed cub headed back to the den for some more cuddle-time.
The new arrival is the first healthy cub for mum Milli and dad Toni who, as young bears, were both rescued from illegal wildlife traders in Cambodia who killed their mothers and kept them as mistreated pets.
Now, the pair have completed their recovery and become parents to the UK’s first sun bear cub.
