Can anyone help with the identification of these two birds? The photo was taken at Birdworld in 1995 and I have only just found it.

The one on the left seems to be a black-capped lory and the one on the right a scaly-breasted lorikeet. Neither one looks quite right though.

Any help will be greatly appreciatied.

Rob

i grabbed my guide to lories and lorikeets and it is a b.capped and a

drum roll please...

PERFECT LORIKEET
Trichoglossus euteles

Native to Timor and the lesser Sunda Islands, inhabits higher altitudesm between 1000-2000 metres above sea level.

So the red one is a black-capped lory. I knew the green one didn't quite look like a scaly-breasted. It could well be a young perfect lorikeet. If so this means I now have no photographs of a scaly-breasted, and not much chance of seeing another one. The one thing still puzzling me is the stripe in front of the eye which is consistent with the scaly-breasted and Weber's though the stripe in this species is also behind the eye. Could be a hybrid I suppose. Anyway thanks for your help.
