Unpopular animals that you like

I love pigeons too, they are beautiful and comical birds which do not deserve anything like the amount of hate they get. Even feral pigeons have beautiful iridescence on the neck feathers and some other members of the family are amongst the most beautiful birds in my opinion. I also find their calls very soothing to listen to, especially the European turtle dive which purrs like a cat! The other 'pest birds' you mention are also very cool, I'm especially fond of starlings, they have tons of character and I love watching them on their winter roosts. But then again they're not the problem here they are in the USA... Gulls are usually only aggressive if they're defending young or if they learn to associate people with food.
Although not maligned in the same way an unpopular group of birds (at least among the general population) I really like are the laughingthrushes. They are beautiful, smart and highly sociable birds with interesting vocalisations and cooperative breeding behaviour in some.
I think pigeons look really beautiful, and yes, I agree with these previous 2 statements. I find the entire group of pigeons is filled with color and excitement, and are some of my favorite birds to see in the wild or at a zoo.

They are common in zoos so I think people on here do get a bit bored of seeing them but I'd say in general they are an animal that many people like. Also worth remembering that they are an endangered species (or possibly 2!)
I agree. I mean- Red pandas? Unpopular? I would beg to differ, they are easily one of the most popular small carnviores among the general public, zoos usually like to put them right up front. The second species is exciting, I hope it does get implemented into modern taxonomy.

Meerkats are famously unpopular on Zoochat because of how common they are in zoos. They’ve been my favorite mongoose and one of my favorite animals since I was a little kid.

Ring-tailed lemurs, too, are often listed among the animals Zoochatters are tired of seeing. They’re one of my favorite lemurs.

I would agree with both of these.

Absolutely. They’re common in zoos for good reason!

Grackles and Feral Pigeons are two bird extremely unpopular with the general public that I personally really like. I like gulls too, though I'm not a fan of how hard they are to ID sometimes.

Temminck’s golden cat - I’ve always been fascinated by these felids; though few visitors were ever interested in them, referring to them as “that cat we never see.” They were indeed poorly suited to display, with breeding success greatly enhanced by keeping the pair off display. Their lack of popularity with the visitors was one of the reasons for phasing them out of Australasia’s zoos; and I see North America have followed suit.

Yes, same here, fascinating and enigmatic felines.

Saw them for the first time in Parc des Felins in France (which I visited specifically to see these cats) and thought they were a very striking species.

I most recently saw one at Singapore Zoo Night Safari, which was highly active being a crepuscular/nocturnal species.

Auckland Zoo were the only zoo to breed them in recent years - the breeding pairs were kept off display and four litters were produced.

The last Temminck’s golden cat held at Hamilton Zoo would hide in the undergrowth and then leap defensively at the wire, scaring the crap out of anyone walking past.

Shame that NZ went out of them, when did they disappear from zoos in the country ?

The last four cats (1.2 at Auckland Zoo; 1.0 at Hamilton Zoo) were sent to Europe in 2011.

Hamilton Zoo held a single male after the female they imported in 2008 was killed by the male the following year; while Auckland Zoo bred a litter of kittens in 2010, but gave up after the male of their breeding pair died of cancer the same year.
