Can someone send me the link of the pics, and wht zoo are we talking about?

Little bit of news; accoring to UKPlanning.com the African Aviary/Ground Hornbill aviary project has had its planning permission granted.

Does anyone have a species list for the walk in aviary?

I already posted this so I looked it up again.

"Species on the list for the African aviary include Water Dikkop, African Pygmy Goose, a bee-eater species, Hammerkop, and Turacos. It depends on what is available when the enclosure has been built"

There is also the probability of Southern Bald Ibis, and I expect the African starlings will move to the new aviary. I anticipate some waders, and weavers.

The lovebirds could be placed here.

Other than that it's a matter of wait and see.

There is a provisional list as posted above, but obviously this can be changed.

As far as I'm aware there hasn't been a proper list put out anywhere (and to be honest I doubt the zoo are sure what species will be going in; as with anything it depends what is available when the zoo is stocking the aviary).

Having said that, the current map leaflet talks about Southern Bald Ibis and Lilac-breasted Roller, and uses a Common Hoopoe to illustrate the aviary on the map. In addition, the 2007 annual report says Water Thick-Knee (Burhinus vermiculatus) will be included.

For all of the above, I'd say 'pinch of salt' 'til it actually happens.

Sorry Rob, cross-posted there! I'd have money on turaco and Hammerkop - walk-through aviary classics. I'd be very pleased to see bee-eaters and pygmy geese.

No problem Maguari.

The main problem will be the lack of space in the quarantine area.

Since work has not started yet I doubt that many new species will be coming in until next year. The species I mentioned are just a part of what is on the zoo's wish list, the keeper I spoke to couldn not remeber anything else, but as you say, it all comes down to what is available.

In fairness, between starlings, rollers, turacos, weavers and Crowned Plover they could stock a pretty interesting aviary just with the birds they already have (which I'm sure has not escaped the zoo's attention).
