Visit 19/12/10 my final visit of 2010:)
My first stop was the Tortoise's in the first enclosure they all seemed extremely active during the day there is a group of around 10-12 mostly female with 3-4 male's in the group including the big male maybe a Seychelles Tortoise 'Darwin'.
My next stop was the North American Tree Porcupine who are normally at the top of the tree's but 2 came down and ate for a while.
The Bactrian Camel's were next and they were all looking fine the baby born last year named Kamali is progressing well and interacting more with his father Sid.
Amazonia was next and i had a chat with one of the keeper's for around 10 minutes she was quite nice giving us as much information that she knew!the baby White Face Saki born around the time of the baby Gorilla and Gibbon had died:( her mother Belle has one arm and half a tail and was unable to look after the young female.Belle's partner Paddy had been seperated off due to the birth and has been ever since,a new male named Dexter was swaped with Paddy for some strange reason?
Whilst i was there a radio call was made and she was told they're was a meeting over the African Lion cubs maybe moving on.
The Yacare Caiman were on show only so one though.
The Small Primate house was closed today because of refurbishment and one of the Colobus Monkey's had a sick baby and that they were trying to warm it up.
No Sign of the Aardvark's,Rudolph the Kune Kune Pig is in the enclosure at the back of the Zebu.
One of the female Minituare Donkey's is looking very round she must be close to birth.
They also had no water due to the ice and was crying out so i had to physically kick in the ice.
The Gorilla's seemed fine and were allowed out to the yard but dint go out.
The Orangutan's were confined to indoor quaters the moat had froze.
The Silvery Marmoset have produced twins.
Zambar was pacing yet again he seem's so lonely all the time.
Finally the Primate keeper i was talking to said that the Pileated Gibbon on the island has had a hard life,
First he was captured in Cambodia
then he was came to Blackpool Zoo
He was introduced to Ivy who recently had a baby
They didn't mate succesfully
he was moved to the island along with another male
that male had ricketts and drowned
and he is also scared of the public.
Pictures will follow.
Regards Jordan.

Jordan, is the female gibbon you refer to the white pilated gibbon near the small apes house?
