Closed uploading pictures

I have a real issue with the photos you are uploading ... too many of them are almost identical to photos I've taken - and from many of the same zoos too. I almost feel like you've been stalking me - or have stolen my photo collection :eek:

also :), unless I'm mistaken (as I may well be), with the new lay-out of the gallery page you can't see from looking down the list when new photos have been added, only when new comments have been added (or is it just that either show up as new comment?).

Did that make sense?

I had another look and it says "last post" rather than "last comment", so post refers just to photo added? Or would a comment be considered a post as well?

Click on someone's name at the top of their posts (next to their avatar if they have one) ... you'll get a menu of options which include seeing all photos and comments from that user.

You can also do this search from the members list (accessible from the tools menu at the top of the page).

The default sort order in the gallery is by "last comment" which means that recently commented photo threads pop up to the top of the list.

When someone uploads a new photo, their description is added as the first comment ("post") in the thread, and thus this is considered a new comment as well - hence newly uploaded photos also pop up to the top of the list.

If you look at the bottom of the thread list in the gallery, you'll see where you can change the options to sort the gallery listing by upload time instead (ignoring comments), or by rating, number of views, etc.

Also check out the new Gallery Sort Tool which gives you a master list of all photos in the gallery and allows you to sort and view them in a variety of ways.
 
Hi Sim had a bit of a problem in the Shaldon gallery in the U.K some how have managed to post threads with no picture and duplicated another any chance you can remove the ones with no picture and 1 of the duplicate pictures your choice as i have tried to remove them but do not seem to find away.Many thanks in advance zoogiraffe.
 
I have some pictures of zoos that don't have their own thread (not a lot of pictures per zoo, so not realy worth their own thread). So i wanted to upload those pictures to the 'other' threads. For example 'Austria other'. But when i click on 'new photo' i have to seach in the categories for 'Austria other' but it's not there. What am i doing wrong? In some 'other' thread on different countries there are uploaded pictures, so i was wondering what those people did, that i diddn't ;)
 
Upload problems

Hi, folks,

I just tried to add some shots of an oddball crow I saw to the US Wildlife gallery. The board acted like it took the upload, but the images never appeared and my photo queue count never went above zero.

I've tried the new FLASH uploader and the regular method. Both have the same result (nada).

Also, point of interest: When I initially tried uploading more than one file (three in all) -- again, the board acted like it took it, then flashed "404 - Upload Error" with all three files.

I'll try making a regular forum post with photos to see what happens.

How big (ie dimensions in pixels) are the photos you are trying to upload ? What is the speed of your internet link ? Are you on dialup ?

If bigger than 1600x1200, try resizing them down to this size before uploading, since the server just resizes them anyway, you can save yourself some uploading time and hopefully make the uploads more reliable.

If you are on dialup, you may want to make the photos even smaller - perhaps 1024x768.

I've also started having problems uploading lately. Every time I upload, sometimes the photos are uploaded and sometimes they are not. And I've always been using the same photos size all the time, so I don't know what is the problem.

Also, the flash version does not work with me anymore. I used to be able to use it, but then out of nowhere I pressed the "Select Files" button, but nothing happens.
 
I've been having trouble with uploader lately too (never have before) and my images are all the same size they were the last time I used to uploader succesfully.

It'll uploading an image and say 'estimating 100%' or something like that but never move on to the next image.
 
Can you please try again. I've made some changes to the site which should hopefully improve performance. Not sure if it will fix uploading problems - let me know how you go.
 
I'm still having the same upload problem--it just halts on one image:

Hey Sim, my flash uploader is not working with me anymore. Everytime I press "Select Files" nothing happens. Is it my computer?

Most likely, yes.

This version of the flash uploader doesn't work with Flash v10, and I'm guessing you recently updated your computer with this new version, which is why it no longer works.

I'm still waiting on a fixed version of the Flash uploader - in beta testing now.
