Here is my semi complete list of associations for the zoo and exotic animal sector that are based in the United States. I have intentionally left out sanctuary associations since they are more or less anti-zoo and I have intentionally left out international associations like WAZA that may include members in the United States. I am sure there are others, feel free to add.

The last one on the list, the Facilities Association, is a new one to me that I discovered from a Google search. Perhaps Zooplantman will enlighten us on this one? I see that my zoo is not a member, but our neighbors the Arizona Sonora Desert Museum and the Phoenix Zoo are members.

The International Wildlife Conservation and Education Coalition is a new emerging group and is based in the United States, despite the International name. (Perhaps they want to expand overseas)? It is being founded by a group that split off from the Feline Conservation Federation. (If anyone wants to know why the split, feel free to send me a PM, as I am a member of the Feline Conservation Federation and have the inside story more or less).

So here is a question. How many facilities are both AZA accredited and ZAA accredited? According to my quick search (I may have missed one), there are three:

Fossil Rim Wildlife Center (Texas)
Fort Worth Zoo (Texas)
Lion Country Safari (Florida)

I do not see the WCS or any of their individual institutions listed on the ZAA web list of accredited members.

Oh ok. But I think not, because it is just a group of locally run zoos and not a national consortium of different zoos.

While under these circumstances your statement is correct but otherwise I'd never call the WCS "just a group of locally run zoos":p
