I am curious as to why out of the 511 Users Recently Active. Only some make comments? Or is it more than l realise???

I would be really interested to hear why?

As l am sure that each person who joins zoochat has a specilaity!

Personally l love reading about gorilla enrichment and paticipating in these discussions. 2nd to that would be to read a post that obviously the poster is passionate about.

At 1 point there was a very interersting thread regarding the history of hipppos in Australia. Or at the momment to read and see pictures of Dukiers swiming is fascenating.

So go on l dare you:D start a thread Lets hear about the stuff YOU love.

Obviously l beeleavre a stwrong gaspp of witten enlish and grummer are NO barrier.;)

And have you noticed that there are usually more guests than members online? Lots of lurking going on :)

gigit, Zooplantman and Sim hello to the 3 of you :p

Now l bet some of the Users Recently Active who dont post are reading this LOL and not posting.

Really curious as to why?????

Does a shy person translate to a non poster here??

I love the saying. "Its the person who says nothing that is remmbered":D

At a party or dinner l often focus on the quiet ones. Usually rewarded with meeting really interesting people with fasinating stories.

Well its up to you boys and girls, ladies and gentleme. There are now 514 Users Recently Active 3 more than yeasterday!

yep, im here lurking as usual!

i dont post too often, but i do try to if i have something factual or helpful to say.
have posted a few photos but time management / laziness stops me from posting more!

I am off to chester zoo with a group of students from the uni where i work on a photo expedition on sunday so i'll try post some notes / photos of anything of interest!

There are times when I post and times when I don't. It all depends on whether I have anything useful to say. There's is nothing more annoying then a long thread full of 'I agree', 'that's great' sort of comments.

I will answer your question and post for the first time ;)
I spend a lot of time on a dutch zooforum and website (Zoosite), since I'm one of the people behind it. One of the jobs is moderator on the forum. So here, I just like to read and say nothing :)
I understand were you are coming from, the same thing happens on our forum, so that's why I decided to answer your question. I think it's just the way forums work, you have active posters and active readers ;)

I am a lurker who only posts occasionally.

I have posted a few times when I have something to say but I generally read these forums to find out what is happening in the world of zoos.

i lurked for year before posting, i guess i found zoochat (then zoobeat) i around 2003, but i was (and still am) barely computer literate (reading some of my posts makes me think if i'm literate at all). unsure of wether to join or not i just spent years of just lurking as one of the guests.

although it may not seem like it i'm trying to cut down my rate of posts as i've realised my frantic posting when i forst joined. its also an effort to try and not become too anoying (this is the bit where your all supposed to say "Foz why your not annoying";) ) :D

Hey Lurkers,:D

this website has best and largest zoo GALLERY in the world, so users just don't have time to post something if they want to watch it all:)

I have actually also been quite curious about the "Recently active" statistics. What is the technical definition - what constitutes being active as opposed to non-active?

The time passed since the last post, for instance? If so, how long a time?

Hi Dan, Users Recently Active counts the number of users who have logged in to the forum within the past 60 days.

Blackduiker

For all those members that are afraid to take that first step, look at me. I've been a member for about a month now. Have posted several threads; some even improperly titled with my username. and that has caused others to make jokes about me. But I'm still posting and probably will make more mistakes in the future.

People make typos, use poor grammar and spelling, and several barely speak english, let alone write it. But they're still jumping in and contributing. We need fresh insight from all corners of the globe. Go ahead, let us enjoy your thoughts and insight.

I was a lurker for well over a year, and having been a member for nearly 10 months, I've still contributed relatively little. The reason for this is primarily that I'm on a gruelling medical course and I feel a bit guilty when I spend much time on here, and also that my animal knowledge is very limited in relation to most other members. Having said this, I contribute wherever I can.

After my exams in two weeks' time (why does zoochat always become more attractive during revision time??) then I hope to start organising my thoughts and photos on Egyptian zoos for the site; if I pass these upcoming exams then I intend to return to Egypt this summer and hopefully contribute a bit more to the site. More on that later - ;)

I too would encourage any lurkers to start speaking up. Every contributor here is appreciated in some way: what makes this site so special is that everyone shares an interest and if we all give a little bit, the result just keeps getting better. :)
