On October 17th, the zoo announced that a zookeeper was bitten by one of the male African lions that afternoon during a routine feeding/closure procedure, and has currently exited the hospital with no life-threatening injuries.

On November 7th, it was reported that the zoo is constructing a new exhibit for African crested porcupines (scheduled to be completed by the end of 2023). It was also reported that the zoo will do a comprehensive remodel of its Wildlife Hall Building, including decommissioning the cotton-top tamarin exhibit (the lone (0.1) Dharma will be transferred to an unspecified sanctuary).

On April 11th, the zoo announced that on April 9th, (1.0) American beaver Cauliflower escaped its enclosure and was not found at the time of posting. The zoo also announced that the other (0.2) American beavers, Mustard and Tangerine, are off-display while the enclosure undergoes additional modifications.

The zoo announced today the death of their two remaining Visayan warty pigs, Axl and Ace, due to declining health. They were euthanized due to advanced age, letting them pass at the same time with respect to their deep social bonds so that one wouldn’t be left alone.
