There are so few Hamlyn's monkeys in europe now I would think it very risky to mix such a valuable species with Gorillas, if that is the case. Gorillas in mixed zoo exhibits will kill monkeys if they can catch them- it has happened several times.
Twycross are no longer shown on ISIS as having a female Owl- faced Monkey now(it was there in June)- could this one be at Valencia,, or has it died?
Owl-Faced-Monkey will disappear from European Zoos sooner or later, they have already disappeard from North American Zoos. There are only three zoos in Europe (Leipzig, Mulhouse, Edinburgh), that are breeding Hamlyn Monkeys continuously and all monkeys are closely realted.
It is risky to keep them together with gorillas indeed. But, many Zoos in Europe have repealed guenons from their animal population during the last years, so I am very happy that a new zoo decided to keep a pair of these wonderful monkeys....

There are now only 24 Hamlyn's(10.14) listed in 7 European zoos-the sum total in zoos anywhere. Not so long ago there were 5 groups in the Uk alone but now only Edinburgh & Twycross(perhaps not much longer?) have them in UK.
There is a single female listed at AMsterdam. Yet only a few years ago there was a group there too. Maybe this female will go to Valencia? I not only disapprove of risking these very rare, rather shy and wonderful monkeys by mixing in with Gorillas, but also of them being kept by a zoo not experienced in keeping them before. They will soon be doomed in my opinion, both at Valencia and in zoos generally.
Some of these other species are bolder and better able to take care of themselves with Gorillas (though Gorillas in zoos have killed both Colobus & De Brazza, possibly others too). I was referring to the risk for Hamlyn's Monkey in particular. It is quite a shy and retiring species and is fast becoming very rare in captivity, all reasons why I think for THIS species -in particular, not monkeys in general,- its wrong to risk any of the remaining ones in a mixed exhibit.
The three hippos 1.1.1. from the old Jardin zoologico de Valencia (clossed) are in Bioparc at the end!
They have begun its period of adaptation and they can to be seen by public in the next months sharing enclosure with African fish and Nile´s crocodiles.

wow the bio park really does seam to love mixing odd species! have crocs and ippo been mixed ant where before?
I've just been to the Bioparc and the Hamlyn's were not mixed in with the gorillas. They are in adjacent enclosures so I can't discount that it happens.
The equatorial zone contained the following mixed exhibits on the day of my visit:
Gorillas, sitatungas, white-naped mangabey, de Brazza.
Hamlyn's monkeys, white-naped mangabey.
Drill (1.3), sitatunga(1.1.1), de Brazza (1), talapoins, pygmy hippo (2).
Congo buffalo(1.1), red river hog, pelicans.
Hippos were not on display.
