This year has seen an incredible surge in coyote attacks in Vancouver's 1,000 acre Stanley Park. The treasure of the city is famous for being home to many beaches, the Vancouver Aquarium and numerous natural attractions. Every single day in the summer there are thousands of people walking, running or biking around the seawall, but this year there's been a lot of media attention on coyotes.

There were several attacks earlier in the summer, with conservation officers killing 4 of the animals in an attempt to curb the aggression. It is fascinating that even in the middle of August, with only around a dozen coyotes in the 1,000 acres, that there have still been numerous attacks. Already there has been at least 30 coyote attacks in the park this year. The animals have been extremely bold, as in a couple of cases there was a child bitten and the kid was surrounded by adults in a parking lot on each occasion...with a coyote dashing out from the undergrowth.

Here's a recent article about the coyotes:

This week saw 3 coyote attacks in 4 days:

2021 has seen a unprecedented increase in the frequency of killer coyotes, this week in Cape Cod a coyote had to be dispatched due to multiple violent run ins with humans, and another incident less than 5 days ago in Arlington sees conservation officers hunting a coyote that's been attacking humans there.

Seeing as though this is a public place, they're probably pretty habituated animals due to idiots giving them food.

Coincidentally (or not), more people have been killed by pumas in Vancouver than any other place. (Overall puma attacks are extremely rare and I am almost certain no one has ever been killed by a puma in my state of Arizona).
