I eat meat, but currently I only eat free range, grass fed, locally farmed beef, butchered by a local butcher.

Has anyone ever read Barbara Kingsolver's Animal, Vegetable, Miracle? She has some interesting things to say about meat eating (within the broader topic of eating locally).

It is a pity government regulations make it almost impossible to sell animals off farm for meat without going through the big Abattoirs.
 
I do eat meat, but I don't feel necessary to eat it every day. I also feel that it is good for the environment to limit meat consumption. I also eat some of the vegetarian meat substitutes. I particularly enjoy falafel, which I uses as a meat-ball substitute. On the other hand, I would find it difficult to give up dairy items such as cheese and ice cream. And while I don't eat meat all the time, there are times when I do crave certain meat items.

It may be laziness, because here in the US the menus of most convince eateries are based around meat items. Also, I suppose I use the Argument from Antiquity to justify my meat eating.

Some years back this was bothering me that I could eat animals, but I could not face the death that I was causing. It never bothered me when I eat fish that I cough. I decided to go in with my neighbor to raise livestock animals. So one day, I humanly dispatched and butchered one of the livestock animals, for my meal. After I eat the meal, I did go vegetarian for two weeks.

After that time, I now acknowledge the animal that died for my meal whenever I eat meat. I did go back to killing my dinner again a few more times. Each time I would shed a tear for the animal that I killed. I would however, acknowledge that they have been an this planet and on the bottom of the food chain for 10's of millions of years, if not longer. It has been several years since, I have done it. but, I would do it again, and I would again probably shed a tear again.

They do have mobile chicken slaughter vans now. I also have a small abattoir/butcher shop near where I live that carry's out USDA inspections.
 
I eat a lot of meat and I make no plans to become vegetarian, however, I have been trying to reduce my meat consumption largely for environmental concerns. Problem is, I'm a VERY picky eater, and there are embarrassingly few fruits and vegetables I'll eat. I partially blame my mom for this; (not entirely, since I do have a pretty sensitive sense for taste and texture) she's a terrible cook and would always feed us REALLY bland foods. Who cooks plain, boiled chicken every night? My mom. I fed as much as possible to my cat and my dog so I didn't have to eat as much. She can't even make chicken good, of course she can't do that with fruits and veggies. Bleh. I've been branching out a little at a time. Indian buffets are a great way to try new vegetable options, because they actually have a little thing called FLAVOR. But I'm still eating meat every day.

My mother had an annoying habit of overcooking every piece of meat we were ever given, excluding round roast, which is best when falling apart. Then I took over the cooking and everyone was a lot happier. Try buying some miso paste and broiling a pork loin chop after making a marinade with it, that is flavor. Also, add a tablespoon to french onion stew. Or minestrone. Anything in need of emergency flavor except sweets.

How do we know that the chemicals they are using to force grow many vegetables don't have meat subsides or any trace of meat in them as they don't carry labels including which chemicals where used to grow the vegetables
 
My garden is currently fertilized exclusively with animal manure primarily supplied by our Guinea Pigs. I wonder if I am consuming trace amounts of Guinea Pig when I eat my kale and tomatoes.

The barn where I ride grows its own hay with the manure from the horses as fertilizer. As soon as the spreader is full it gets spread on the field. I wonder if they horses are thus engaging in cannibalism.
